LEATHER-GLAZING MAGHINE.
LZIAIAGQ.
Specification of Letters Patent. Pgi gnted Jan, 3% 1911"],
Application filed March 7, 1916. Serial No. 82,705.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, WILLIAM HOFMANN and CHARLES CHnrsTY, citizen of the United States, and residents of Camden, county of Camden, State of New Jersey, have invented certain Improvements in Leather-Glazing Machines, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to certain improvements in leather glazing machines of the type in which a reciprocated toggle carries the agate and travels over a table on which the skins are mounted.
The object of our invention is to connect the toggle to the support in such a manner as to prevent the wearing away of the joints.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a side view of a leather glazing machine illustrating our invention; Fig. 2 is a sectional view on the line a-a, Fig. 1, drawn to an enlarged scale and illustrating the connecting joint; and Fig. 3 is a detached perspective view of the parts of the joint.
Referring to the drawings 1 is the table mounted on a suitable frame.
2 is a power driven shaft having a. wheel 3 connected by a rod 1 to a carrier 5 of the toggle. This carrier is connected to the sus pended member 6 of the toggle at 7 and has a clamp 8 at its lower end in which the agate 9 is secured which is used to glaze the leather. On the upright 10 of the frame is secured an inclined abutment 11 connected to the rocker 12 of the suspended member of the toggle by a rod 13. Mounted on the abutment 11 are coiled springs 14 supporting a spring plank 15 and connecting the spring plank 15 with the suspended member of the toggle 6 are links. Usually, these links are plain and yieldingly hold the rocker 12 against the abutment 11, but, with the constant moving of the parts, these links and their bearings wear away very rapidly. Our invention relates particularly to an improvement in the arrangement and mounting of these links.
Secured to the spring plank 15 are bolts 16 in which are mounted anti-friction rollers 17 carried by pins 18 and on a cross shaft 19 carried by the rocker 12 of the suspended member of the toggle is a bearing 20 having reduced extensions 21. Each extenthe bearing, but the bearing is free to turn.
on the shaft 19.
In order to lubricate the bearing, we provide a grease cup 25, which communicates with the space between the bearing and the shaft. By this construction, the several elements of the connection turn freely, yet firmly hold the rocker 12 against the under side of the abutment 11 when the shaft 2 revolves and reciprocates the toggle.
We claim:
1. The combination in a leather glazing machine, of a spring plank; links hung from said plank; an abutment; a rocker member, and means for operating the same; a transverse shaft carried by the rocker member; a bearing mounted on said shaft; and links having their lower ends attached to the bearing so as to prevent the bearing from turning independently of the links, said shaft being free to turn in the bearing.
2. The combination in a leather glazing machine, of a spring plank; adjustable bolts carried by said plank and having rollers at their lower ends; two links, each of said links having a hook at each end, the upper hooks resting on the rollers of said bolts; an abutment; a rocker member, and means for operating the same; a transverse shaft carried by said rocker member; a bearing mounted on the shaft and having flattened reduced portions at each end, the lower books of said links engaging the flattened portions of the hearing so that said bearing will not turn in the links, but will allow the shaft to turn freely in the bearing.
WILLIAM I-IOFMANN. CHARLES CHRISTY.
