Description

C. A. FOSDICK. BROOM BRIDLE,
APPLICATION FILED OCT- 25, I916. mvmm Patented Jan. 30, 1917.
CHARLES A. FOSDICK, OF KEOTA, IOWA. I
Bnoomdanmm.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J an. 30, 1917..
Application filed October 25, 1916. Serial No. 127,653.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES A. Fosoron, a citizen of the United States, residing at lieota, in the county of Keokuk, and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful lmprovements in Broom-Bridles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
"his invention relates to broom bridles, and the object of the invention is the provision of a simple, durable and practical bridle that can be cheaply manufactured and conveniently associated with a broom head, and when in operative position will effectively reinforce the broom straws, so as to admit of the straws retaining their rigidit y throughout the life of the broom head.
Other objects will appear and be better understood fromv that embodiment of the invention of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part thereof, in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a broom head with the improved bridle associated therewith, Fig. 2 is an edge view of the broom head with the bridle'mounted thereo11, and Fig. 3 bridle detached Referring to the letter A designates a nary construction, nates, as an entirety, the improved bridle.
As shown in Fig. 3 of the drawing the bridle is formed of a pair of rectangular shaped frames 1 and 2 that are positioned at intersecting planes. Adjacent sides of the frames 1 and 2 are pivotally connected by means of pivot pins 3. The frames 1 and 2 cooperate to provide clamping jaws, which, when the bridle is in operative position on the broom head, crowds the straws forming the broom head so as to increase the rigidity from the broom head.
drawing in detail, the
of the straws, so that the straws will not easily bend or break from use, or when they is a perspective view of the broom head of ordiand the letter B desig-v are wet. Substantially oval shaped loop members encircle adjacent sides of the frames 1 and 2 at points above the pivot 3,
{and are slidably associated with the sides of the frames. Those sides of the frames which have the loops 4 associated therewith are provided with notches 5 which are adapted to interchangeably receive the loops I broom head therebetween. The loops 4; are
then adjusted upwardly so as to further move the frames toward each other and cause the same to crowd the broom straws forming the head, and the loops 4 are then engaged in certain of the notches so as to prevent the frames from having pivotal movement in a direction awayfrom each other. The frames 1 and 2 provide clamping jaws that will give a maximum clamp ing action and by virtueof the employment of the loops 4, and the provision of the notches 5, the frames 1 and 2 can be held in different clamping positions.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new, is:
-A broom bridle consisting of'a pair of intersecting rectangular shaped relatively movable clamping frames, certain adjacent sides of the frames having pivotal connection with each other, and means adjustably associated with the clamping frames for holding the frames in different clamping po- J.
