Description

PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN O. WANDS, OF NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE.
IMPROVEMENT IN METALLIC ROOFINGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 121,438, dated November 28, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J oHN C. WANDs, of Nashville, in the county of Davidson and State of Tennessee, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fastenings for Corrugated Roofing; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the saine, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specication, in which- Fignre 1 is a top view, Fig. 2 a sectional elevation, and Fig. 3 a bottom view.
This invention relates to a device for fastening together sheets of corrugated rooiing by means of Z-snaped clamps, into whose angles the edges of the upper and lower sheets are passed, the same being thereby prevented from springing apart.
Referring to the drawing, a b are two sheets of corrugated roofing, the corrugations of which run crosswise ofthe sheets instead of lengthwise of them, so that the sheets can be more easily fastened together at the edges. The upper edge of the under sheet is to be nailed to the sheathing or fastened with wire to iron rafters. The lower edge of the upper sheet is connected with the upper edge of the-lower one by means of my improved fastenings, which have upper shieldshaped plates c, which fit over the apices of the oorrugations of the upper sheet a, and under plates el which iit under the apices of the corrugations of the lower sheetb, said plates d being slit at or near their middles so as to allow the plates to assume the curvature necessary to make them t the corrugations as closely as maybe. The plates c d are connected by diagonal center pieces e. The edge of the lower sheet ts under these center pieces, and the edge of the upper sheet fits over them. These fastenings hold the sheets securely together, but one fastening being required to every tive corrugations, more or less.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The fastening herein described, consisting of the upper platesv o, lower plates d, and center pieces e, applied to the corrugated roof, as specified.
JOHN G. WANDS.
