Description

JOSEPH K.M|LN0R- Improvement in Sawing Machines.
No. 121,396. I 'Ptented-Nov 28,1871.,
UNITED STATES JOSEPH K. MENOR, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
IMPROVEMENT IN SAWlNG-MACHINES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 121,396, dated November 28, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OSEPH K. MILNOR, of Baltimore, in the county of Baltimore and State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Saw and Wood Wagons and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference markedthereon which form a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the consrtuction and arrangement of a wagon for hauling wood, provided with a circular saw operated by the movement of a wagon, so that the wood may be cut on the way to its destination, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
- In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, Iwill now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a side view of my wagon, the side of the wagon-box being partially broken to show the interior; and Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same.
A represents the wagon-box, made of any desired dimensions, and mounted upon four wheels, B B, each pair of said wheels being attached to an axle placed in suitable journal-boxes under the box. Upon one of the axles, between the box and the wheel, is a large pulley, 0, connected by a belt with a pulley placed upon the outer end of a short shaft, b, which passes through the side of the box A at about its center, and has suitable bearings on the bottom of the same. On this shaft 1), within the box, is a large pulley, D, moving through an opening in the bottom of the box, and connected by a belt with a smaller pulley, d, on the end of a short shaft arranged horizontally in a table, E, which is supported'upon two inclined standards, G G, rising from the bottom of the box. On the same shaft as the pulley d, and working in a slot in the table, is a circular saw, 6. H is a step or rest, attached to one of the standards Gr, upon which the operator can stand while holding the wood to be sawed.
From the above arrangement it will readily be seen that when the wagon is in motion, even if said motion is ever so slow, the saw will have a very swift and rapid rotating motion, so that the wood can readily be sawed while it is being conveyed from one place to the other.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and. desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination and arrangement of the wagon-box A with its axles and wheels, pulleys O D a (1 upon their respective shafts, saw 6, table E, and standards G G, all substantially as shown and described, and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
JOSEPH K. MILNOR. Witnesses:
