IMPROVEMENT IN LOOM PICKING MECHANISMS.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELIJAH D. Govn, of H01- yoke, in the county of Hampden and State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improved Parallel Picker-Motion fol-Looms; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification.
My invention consists in an arrangement of the outer ends of the rocker and rocker-bed for the application of a block for holding the rocker on the bed in such manner that a rolling contact of the moving parts is obtained when the staff is operated, which saves considerable friction and avoids the necessity of using oil, which is very desirable to prevent the collections of dust and dirt, said arrangement requiring no finishing and is cheaper than other arrangements now in use. A part of the arrangement constitutes a weight for throwing the picker-staff back.
Figure l is an elevation of the picker-stafi and the rocker'bed and a section of the rocker. Fig. 2 is partly an elevation and partly a section of the rocker. Fig. 3 is a sectional elevation of the rocker-bed. Fig. 4. is a section of Fig. 2 on the line. as m, and Fig. 5 is a side and end view of the block employed to hold the rocker on the bed and to allow it to rock when the picker is thrown.

short distance from the outer end, between which convex surfaces Iintroduce a short block of wood, F, said block being arranged endwise between them, and the rocker is drawn by the strap G against the outer end of said block, whose inner end rests against E so that it holds the rocker against end motion when the picker-shaft H is actuated by the strap I and allows it to rock in the manner required on the bed A, causing a rocking or rolling action between the ends of said block F and the convex surfaces D E, calculated to lessen the friction greatly as compared with surfaces sliding on each other or one sliding on another 5 besides it avoids the use of oil altogether.
The walls of the case, being of cast metal, may be made heavy enough to act as a counterweight to throw the pickerstaff back.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The case 0, block F, rocker B, and bed A, all combined, constructed, and arranged substantially as and for the purpose described.
