UNilTED STAQEEATENT OFFICE.
OSCA a a. KRATZ, or I-IILLSDALE, OREGON.
TATlING--SH'UTTLE Specification of Letters Patent. P t nted Jan- 23, 1917.
Application filed April29,1916. Serial No. 94,424.
To all 107mm '1' 1' may concern Be it'known that 1,.Osoaa A. Kna'rz, a citizen of the Unitethfitates, residing at l-lillsdale, in the county of lllnltnomah and o State of Oregon, have invented pertain new and useful Improvements in Tatting-Shutties, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain inn n-ove meats in tatting; shuttles and it is an object of the ll'lVCl'lllOll to 'irovulr a novel and improved device oi this general clniracier wherein a spool, may be readily and con-- veniently applied in operative position.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and as rangement ot' the several parts ot my improved shuttle whereby certain ini ortant advantages are. attained and the device is rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, all as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of the invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, 1- will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure 1 1s a view in top plan at a tatting shuttle constructed in aecm'daiafe with an enibodiment of my invention; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical sectional view taken through the device as disclosed in Fig. 1,
a enacting-spool being shown in elevation; Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view taken through the device as disclosed in the preceding views at. substantially the longitudi- 40 ml center thereof, a coacting spool being shown inelevation.
As disclosed 1n the accompanying drawings, 1-1 denote two elongated plaites longi tudinally bowed and substantially elliptical in form with their extremities pointed, and
.9 free ends of the tongues 3 disposed inwardly, whereby the same may frictionally engage a flange/l of the spool S, said spool being of a type generally 'ernployed inconnectlon with sewing machlne shuttles. Each of the plates hat the longitudinal center of qhe of its-margins is provided with a lateral extension 5 terminating in an inwardly directed flange 6 adapted to overlie the flanges of the spool. S to further assure the mam- I -tenance of the spool interposed between the,
plates 1. in the form of invention herein set forth, the spool S is non-rotatable inde- 'icui'lentiy oi the plates 1 and in the use of the device it will be understood that the shuttle is adapted to be reversed'by the operator. i also on it of advantage to provide the opposite end portions of the plates 1 with the enacting; sockets l and heads 1 to assure the plates 1 being maintained in n'oper relation. As herein embodied, the heads l comprise SQlIllSPllBIlCill depressions as is thought to be clearly shown in the accompanying drawings.
it will be ei.'ceived that when one of the plates 1. is removed. the spool or shuttle 5% can be readily wound by hand. It will also he understood that by removing both of the plates 1, the thread can be wound upon the spool or shuttle S in a conventional manner in cimnection with a sewing machine.
From the foregoing description, it is thought to be obvious that ashuttle constructed in accordance with my invention is of an extremely simple and comparatively inexpensive nature and is particularly well adapted for use. by reason of the convenicuce and 'tacility with which it may be assembled. and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible ol some change and. modification withoutinaterial departure;
substantially elliptical in form adapted to'loq f be arranged in superposed relation]; saidplatesheing provided with means to aifoi'dv a mounting for a spool, each of saldplafiesi being provided at a side with an inwardly,
directed flange, the flange of one plate bein 10.5
arranged at a side opposite to the flan-goo. the second plate.
2. As a new article of manufacture, a no ting shuttle comprising two elongated plates substantially elliptical in foiin'adapted. to 1 10 be arranged in superposed relation, andinfi wardly disposed tongues carried by Said plates-to afford a mounting for a spool, each provided with eoaeting sockets and heads ofsaid'plates being provided at a side with for holding the plates against relative 8 depending flange," lateral movement.
3. Asa new article of manufacture, a tat- In testimony whereof I hereunto alhx my 5 ting shuttle comprising two elongated plates signature in the presence of two witnesses. 15
substantially elliptical in form adapted to r M be arranged in superposed relation, and ing OSCAR IXRAl/J' wardly disposed tongues carried by said Witnesses: plates to afford a mounting for a spool, the J. 15. Wm'mxs,
10 adjacent end portions of the plates being C. 1*. Flsmz'n.
