To ZZ whom t may concern Be it known that I, JOHN A. Rossi, a citizen oi the United States, residing at North Yakima, in the county of Yakima and State of Washington, have invented new and useful Improvements in Tent Attachments, of which the following is a specification.

This invention `relates to an attachment for tents' which may be applied thereto in such a manner as to surround the stove pipe opening therein and serve as a protector tor the tent.

r1lhe primary object of the invention is to provide an attachment of the class described which when applied to a tent in such a manner as to surround the stove pipe opening therein prevents the tent from becoming damaged when the stove pipe is in a heated condition, said attachment having the parts thereof so arranged and constructed that the attachment may be used as a ventilator for the tent when desired.

lVith these and other objects in view, the invention resides in the novel combination and arrangement of parts, which will be hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the claim.

The preferred embodiment of the invention has been illustrated in the accompanydrawing, although no restriction is necessarily made to the precise details of construction therein shown, as changes, alterations, and modifications within the scope of the claim may be resorted to when desired.

Figure 1 is a top plan view of a portion of a tent showing the attachment applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view on the line 2&2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 1 showing the cover plate removed from the attachment. Fig. 4- is a view looking at the under-side of the attachment and showing the same applied to a tent and used as a window. Fig. 5 is a transverse sectional view on the line 5 5 of Fig. 4t showing the attachment used as a ventilator. Fig. 6 is a plan view of one of the clamping members removed from the attachment.

Referring now to the drawing in detail, the numeral 1 designates a portion of a tent which may be of any well known type having an opening 2 therein through which a stove pipe 3 may be passed.

The improved attachment e comprises a body 5 which is a flat disk-shape plate 8 and is provided on its marginal edge with a circumferentially extending bead 9 and has tially a vertical plane.

Fastening members 12 which are in U- vform t'o provide each fastening member with arms 13 and 14: are arranged at diametrically opposite points on the under-side of the plate 8, the respective arms on each fastening member 12 passing through openings 15 in the plate 8 with the arms 14 on each fastening member positioned adjacent a flared portion on the collar 11.

A disk or plate 1G of protective material such as asbestos, or the like, is positioned upon the upper face of the plate 8 and covers the outer face of the collar 11.

The plate 8 is provided upon its inner face at diametrically opposite points between the fastening members 12 and adjacent the collar 11 with an eye 17, the shank 18 of which is threaded and passes through an opening 19 in the plate 8 to receive a thumbnut 20.

The upper face of the plate 8 has mounted thereon a pair of clamping members 21 and 22 arranged circumferentially about the collar 11 with each clamping member formed from a strand of wire convoluted throughout its length, as at 23, with the convolutions decreasing in length toward the respective ends of the clamping members from a point intermediate said ends. Each clamping member is received between its ends in an eye 17 and has its respective terminals provided with eyes 23 in which are received the arms 14 on the fastening members 12, said arms being threaded to receive nuts, or the like, which enable the arms 14: to co-act with the eyes 17 in securing the clamping members to the plate 8. l

A cover plate 24 which corresponds in shape to the plate 8 has its outer marginal edge beaded, as at 25, and it is provided with an eccentrically arranged and elliptical opening 26 adapted to register with the opening 10 in the plate 8 and is surrounded by an upstanding flange 27 the free edge of which is rolled, as at 28, to provide a groove 29 in which the free edge of the collar 11 is adapted to seat.

rIhe cover plate 24e is bulged between the flange 27 and the bead on the rim thereof to over-lie the clamping members 21 and 22 so that, when the cover plate over-lies these members, the beadedY marginal edges oi' said plates will be in contacting relation.

The cover plate 9A- has formed therein at diametrically opposite points openings 29 through which extend the arms 13 and the fastening members 12, said arms being threaded to receive thumb-screws by means of which the cover plate 2st may be removably connected to the plate 8.

A sash trame 30 has mounted therein a transparent panel 31 and has formed integra-l therewith fingers 32 which, when the sash trame is inserted in the opening 10 in the plate Smay be interposed in the groove 29 in the flange 27 and in this manner secure the sash frame within the opening in -the attachment which normally receives the stove pipe.

A trame 33 similar in construction to the Jframe 30 has mounted therein screen fabric 34, said trame having attaching lingers 35 connected therewith and adapted to be positioned within the groove 29 in the liange 27 to close the opening in the attachment when the same is used as a ventilator.

VVhenit is desired to connect the attachment with a tent, the cover plate 24 is removed from the plate 8 and the plate S arranged interiorly of the tent with the collar 11 received in the stove pipe opening therein so that the portion of the tent adjacent said opening may be arranged between the clamping members and plate 8. rlhe cover plate 24e may now be arranged to over-lie the clamping members and plate 8 and may be connected with said plate by the arms 13.

From the foregoingdescription, taken in connection with the accon'ipanying drawings, it is at. once apparent that an attachment for a tent has been provided which not only prevents the tent beingdamaged by an over-heated stove pipe but enables the tent to be ventilated at all times.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is:

An attachment for a tent comprising a plate forming a body and having an opening therein, a collar surrounding said opening, convoluted clamping members connected with the plate and arranged circumterentially about said opening, a cover plate for connection with the lirst mentioned plate and having a .flange for connection with the collar, a frame for disposition within said opening, and lingers on said frame to be received between the collar and flange.
