To all whom may concern l Be it known that I, FRANK'J. BoRRE's, a citizen ofy the United States, residingV at Pittsburgh, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented newl The invention is directed to a means whereby the snow cutter and lifter is adapted for travel on a railway track under steam or other propulsion and is operative to cut a channel lthrough the snow and to pick up the material and carry the same rearwardly. With the snow removing car there is associated a series of any number of additional cars which are constructed to take the material picked up by the snow remover, and carry it rearwardly tothe rearmost or other selected car of the train, vinto which it is delivered. The constructing features involves means whereby the carriers on each car'are operated through the movement of the car, with the operating means arranged for manual control so that'it may be cut out at will. By this means as soon as aV particular car is filled it is cut out from the loading operation and the next car in advance filled and so on until the train is loaded.
The invention in the preferred form-ofV details will be described' in the following specification, reference being had particularly to the accompanying drawings, in which:

mover with the entire construction arranged so that the cars may be successfully loaded from the rear and tol the front end of the train. The independent structure of the loadingcarspermits the train to be made up ofV any number of such cars without any change whatever. i
The snow remover provides a structure, which is adapted to cut its way Vthrough a snow bank and pick up all of the material included between such limits, transporting such material to the rear of the snow remover for delivery to the loadingcars.V
The snow remover comprisesa platform 1, 'upon the usual wheel structure 2, so that the remover as a whole is'adapted for travel upon the usual railway tracks. The platform is provided with metal 'sides 4: from a boX like structure without ends, and at the forward end of the sidesv and platform are arranged shields 5 in the form of rectangular metallic l'-sections, preferably steel and suitably .braced and supported from the body. The shields 5, which are in e'ect, cutters, extend from the upper edge mensions ofthe track and by-such separation, loosen the intermediate portion to a greater or less y extent. Mounted in the framework of the body'at the Vforward end is a transverse aXle 6, on which is arranged a drum 7 and mounted inthe rear portion of the body at a point above the side walls thereof,` is an axle 8, carrying a'comparatively small drum 9. The drums are practically of the full width of the body and a belt l0 is adapted for travel, about the drums, said belt bearing upon its surface a series of' buckets or other elevators v11. The Vdispositionof the parts is such thatthe buckets at their eXtreme forward and lower limit of movement are positioned close to the ties, so that as they advance upwardly they will take up at said part all material or-snow and carry the Same rearwardly,
The belt 10V is preferably driven from motor 12 of any appropriate type, supported upon a superstructure or elevated platform 13 mounted on the body, appropriate Controls, not shown, being provided for the motor, and access to the platform 13 is had through a ladder or the like 14.
l/Vith the remover l contemplate the use of any desired number of what l call loading cars, Vadapted and constructed to receive the material fromV the loader in order that the same may be transported to any suitable dump. The loading cars are identical, one with another, and a detailed description of one will suffice for all. r1`he loading car comprises a platform 15, having the usual trucks Vand wheels whereby it is adapted for travel on the track 3 to form part of the train, the
platform being provided with side walls 17 to an appropriate height to constitute a receptacle for the material. rlhe rearend of the space between the side walls is closed by the rearwall 18, and the forward end is provided with a hopper like construction including a forward wall 19 which curves upwardly and forwardly from the platform 15, the wall 19 being connected by side walls 20 withl the sidewalls 17 of the car. Front and rear axle shafts 21 and 22, are mounted in uprights 23 rising from the-platform, the rear shaft 22 being elevated with respect to the forward shaft. Drums 24 and 25 are mounted upon respective shafts and support a belt 26 carrying buckets or other carrying means 27 rlhe forward or pickup end of the belt is so positioned that the buckets in their upward movement work in the hopper at the forward end of the car. The belt of the loading car is adapted to be driven at will through the forward axle of the track wheels. @ne of the track wheels being .for this purpose provided with a gear `28 adapted to mesh with a gear 29, supported upon the shaft 30, arranged for limited horizontal movement, theshaft being connected through a rod 31 and lever 32, with an auxiliary shaft 33 supported on the platform inrear of the driving axle shaft. shaft 33 is operated at will through the medium of meshing gears 34, and 35, the former carried on the shaft 33, and the latter upon the lower end of a control shaft 36. The control shaft extends vertically of the loading car, being mounted in suitable bearings and terminates above an elevating platform 37 supported on the uprights 23 above the belt 2G. The upper end of the shaft is provided with a. hand wheel or other operatingmeans 38, whereby the shaft may be rotated. A
- In the particular operation of the device it will be apparent that by turning the shaft 36 to engage the gear 29 it may be thrown into or out of meshing coperation with the gear` 28, and hence ythe shaft 30 maybe will be obvious that the belt of a particular loading car may be driven or permitted to remain stationary at will.
The platform 15 of each loading car is preferably formed of dumping openings 42 closed by doors 43 provided `with suitable locks and meansfor controlling them so that the load of a particular car may be discharged at will.
With the parts arranged as described and a train made up of anadvanced snow remover and a series ofV loading cars coupled successively thereto, with a propelling means as an engine or the like at the rear of the train, it will be apparent that as the train advances the snow will be cut initially by the shields, taken up by the buckets 11 of the belt 10, and carried Vrearwardly and discharged into the hopper of the first loading car. Jassuming the belts of all loading cars in action, the belt of each loading car in succession will pick up the material from its hopper and carry it rearward to the next loading car. The filial loading car of the series will have its beltl stationary, by disconnection of its driving means, and the material discharged therein will be permitted to fill vthe box body of the car until the same is loaded. rllheV belt of the next succeeding car is then cut out and such car loaded, the operation continuing until all of l means for driving the cars through the material to be removed.

1. A snow remover including a track traveling structure, a belt mounted thereon,
elevating and carrying means arranged on the belt, arloading car in rear of the track traveling structures and including a hopper to receive material from the belt, and a belt to pick up the material from the hopper and carry the same lengthwiseV to the loading car.
