PATENT CEEICE.
JOHN L. DEMAREST, OF ELMIRA, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN THREAD-RACKS FUR SPUOLING ATTACHMENTS 0F SEWING-MACHINES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 121,043, dated November 21, 1871.
To all whom it 'may concern:
Be it known that I, .TOEN L. DEMAREsT, of the city of Elmira, county of Ohemun g, State of New York, have invented a new and useful Sewing- Machine ThreadBack; and I hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The object of this apparatus is to hold spools of thread in a manner convenient to the operator of a sewing-machine; and also, when attached to a sewing-machine having a shuttle, to enable the bobbin to be wound without unthreading the upper part of the machine.
Figure l is an end view of a sewing-machine and its table, with the thread-rack attached. Fig. 2 is a plan of the same.
O is a post fixed to the under side of the table, to which the arm A is pivoted, and on which it is free to turn. B is a short arm pivoted to the arm A, having at its end the loop D. E E E are buttons of leather or other suitable substance attached to arm A between the spools, their object being to catchl the ends of the threads not in use. When the arm A is swung out 'om under the table, as shown, spools of thread can be placed upon or taken off from the pins K, while the ends of the threads are secured by passing them under the leather buttons E. The position ofthe apparatus when not in use is shown by the dotted lines, the arms A and B being then under the table. The bobbin from a shuttle-machine may be wound from any spool on the rack by moving the arm B at right angles to the arm A and passing the thread to be Wound through the loop D, as shown, to the bobbin, which has been placed in the bobbin-winder of the sewingmachine.
I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination, with the sewing-machine table, oi' the hinged rack provided with the guiding-arm B D, the pins K for receiving the spools, and the washers for holding the ends of the thread, and arranged for operation with the spool ing device, as set forth.
