WITNESS A TTOR/VEY -UN I ED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE P. KNAPP, OF BRIDGEPORT, CONNECTICUT, ASS IGNOR TO HARVEY HUBIBELL, INCORPORATED, OF BRIDGEPOBT, CONNECTICUT, A CORPORATION OF CONNECTICUT.
. an enlarged scale with the face plate re- DUPLEX RECEPTACLE.
Specification of Letters I'atent.
. Application filed June 19, 1915. Serial No. 35,075.
stance two) connecting caps, that 1s, caps carrying electric connections and knife blade contacts, so that a plurality of lights, fans,
motors, or surgical or cooking appliances may be used simultaneously or independently, or changed at will, as for example a percolator, a toaster and a chafing ,dish.
A further object of the invention is to provide a duplex or multiple receptacle which shall be so constructed as to prevent the possibility of arcing or sparking and which shall be perfectly safe and convenient for use by persons having no electrical knowledge.
With these and other objects in view, I
have devised the novel receptacle which I will now describe, referring to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and using reference characters to indicate the several parts.
Figure 1 is a perspective of my novel receptacle as in use, and showing detached a connecting cap with parallel knife blade contacts and another cap with alined knife blade contacts; Fig. 2 a front elevation on moved; Fig. 3 a side elevation with the face plate in section, and Fig. 4 is a view similar to Fig. 2 moved. I
My novel receptacle comprises a body 10, a top block 11, and a face plate 12. The top block is provided with a double hub or boss 13 which is provided with pairs of T-shaped' slots indicated by 14. The face plate is provided with an opening 15 which ust receives the double hub or boss and is attached to' the top-block by screws 16.
with the top block re- 17 denotes a connecting cap provided with parallel knife blade contacts indicated by 18, and 19 a connecting cap provided Igvitgo alined knife blade contacts indicated 21 denotes electric connections for the caps.
The body is provided with ears 22 by which it is attached to an outlet box or a wall.
23 denotes pairs of triple spring contact plates which are so constructed as to adapt them for engagement by either parallel or knife blade contacts when the latter are passed through the T-slots, as described and Patented Dec. 26, 1916.
claimed in patent to Harvey Hubbell, No.
1,146,938, dated July 20, 1915. The spring contact plates are carried by connecting plates 24 which are secured to the body by screws 25 and also carry binding screws 26 intermediate the spring contact plates. The spring contact plates lie in recesses in the under side of the top block which is secured to the body by screws 27."
Having thus described my invention I claim:
1. A receptacle of the character described comprising a body having a fiat outer face, a pair of spaced apart connecting plates attached to the said outer face, spring contact plates attached to said connecting plates and projecting beyond the outer face of said body, and a top block attached to said base and having recesses in its inner face to receive said spring contact plates, and also-
