Description

STA .l
IMPROVEMENT IN DINNER-PLATE COVERS.
Specification forming part of Letters` Patent No. 120,995, dated November 14, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARY M. J. OSULLIVAN, of New Haven, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Improvement in Dinner-Plate Cover; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawing constitutes part of this speciiication, and represents, in-
Figure 1, a side view; and in Fig. 2, a vertical central section. A
This invention relates to a device for covering dinner-plates. lt is well known that in families and other places it is frequently necessary to preserve the dinner for one or more persons whose absence at the hour of dinner is unavoidable. In such casesthe common practice is to place the 'portion for dinner upon a plate and set the plate 1iiear the tire, the result 'of which is that the dinner is quickly dried to such an extent as to be unpalatable. The object of my invention is the construction of a cover to be used in such cases; and it consists in aplate forming a chamber, and over which the dinner-plate is set, and constructed so that hot water may be placed in the said chainber, and provided with a cover to inclose the dinner-plate.
A is a vessel or plate, constructed from any suitable material, by preference sheet metal; B, the inner plate, forming a part of the outer plate, and arranged so as to form a chamber, C, between the inner and outer plate. D is the conductor, through which hot water may be poured into the chamber 5 E, the cover setting onto the plate B to form a second chamber Within which the dinner-plate F is set.
The plate of dinner being arranged over the plate B and the cover placed thereon, the chamber C iilled with hot water and closed, the dinner may remain upon the table and be kept to a desirable temperature for a long time.
This invention is also useful for keeping plates warm while in use-desirable for many kinds of food.
I claim as my invention- As an article of manufacture, the herein-.described dinner-plate cover, consisting of the plates AB with the chamber C formed between, and having a cavity in the plate B so as to receive the plate F, and provided with the cover E, all constructed in the manner and for the purpose substantially as described.
MARY M. J. OSULLIVAN.
