To all whom t may concern.-
Be it known that I, LUCKEY D. LONG, a citizen of the United States, resi'ding at Bronson, in the county of Bourbon and State of Kansas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Head-Lamps, of which the following is a specification.
rlhis invention relates to headlamps such as are now commonly used upon automobiles and similar vehicles forithe purpose of illuminating the road way at night time, the object of the present invention being to construct the headlamp in such manner that in addition to the means for projecting the rays of' light in advance of the machine, said head lamp is provided with a. side window or light and in connection therewith a reflector arranged at the-opposite side of the burner whereby both sides of the road way may be also illuminated thus avoiding danger in turning the machine to one side or the other.
A further object of the invention is to provide a novel mounting for the main reflector arranged behind the burner, wherebysaid reflector may be adjusted to either direct the rays of light downwardly, upwardly or in a substantially horizontal plane as may suit the convenience of the driver of the machine -and also to enable him to comply with varying traffic regulations especially in large cities.
With the above and other objects in View, the invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as herein described, illustrated and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings z-Figure l is a side elevation of a headlamp embodying the present invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical cross section through the same on the line 9,2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a central Vertical fore and aft section through the lamp.
Referring to the drawings l designates the body of the lamp which in the main is of the ordinary construction now in common use, the same being provided with the head panel or lens 2 arranged in` front of the burner 3 for lilluminatmg the road in advance of the vehicle by which the lamp is carried.

The side panel off glass 5 is preferably mounted in and carried by a door l0 which is hinged at ll and ordinarily held close by means of a catch or fastener 12 opposite the hinge ll. rlhus the door l0 may be used for the purpose ot' lighting or extinguishing the burner without necessitating the opening of the f'ront lens 2 or the door carrying said lens.
