.L PATENT @FFlQ.
ALVIN RUPPERT, OF AKRON, MICHIGAN.
VENTILATING-HOOD FOR STOVES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 19, 1916.
Application filed May 17, 1916. Serial No. 98,115.
To all whom it may concern Be it lmown that I, ALVIN RU'PIERT, a citi- Zen of the United States, residing at Akron,
in the county of Tuscola, State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ventilating-Hoods for Stoves; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the in vention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The present invention is directed to improvements in. hoods for cook stoves, and has for its object to provide a device of this character so constructed that the odor from the articles being cooked will be trapped by the hood and directed to the stove pipe.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which serves as a warming oven which can be connected to the smoke pipe and in which there will be utilized the heat that ordinarily passes with the fumes from the top of the stove directly into the smoke pipe.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a device of this type that will not only perform the above mentioned functions, but will be simple, and cheap to manufacture.
With these and other objects in view, this invention resides in the novel features of construction, formation, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of the device. Fig. 2 is an end view. Fig. 3 is a sectional ,view on line 3-3 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a sectional view on line H of Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawings 1 designates the conventional form of cook stove which has leading therefrom a smoke pipe 2, said stove having associated therewith a back plate 3, the upper portion of which forms the back at of the hood. Supported by the back 4 are sides 5 and top and bottom 6 and 7, said bottom having rising centrally therefrom the copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the pipe 8, said pipe extending rearwardly and communicates with the smoke pipe 2. The pipe 8 has associated therewith a conventional form of damper 9, whereby the passage of heat can be regulated through the pipe, when desired.
A false bottom 11 is provided and has its central portion connected to the bottom 7 while the remaining portions thereof incline downwardly and have their outer edges suitably secured to the ends 5.
Connected to the ends 5 are guides 12, said guides being slidably engaged by the door 13, which when closed will retain the heat within the space between the top and bottom 6 and 7, respectively, thus producing a warming oven 13.
A strip 14 is connected to the adjacent edges of the ends 5, and bottom 7, and since the false bottom is inclined it is obvious that the fumes will be directed to the pipe 8 and from thence to the smoke pipe 2.
A strip 15 is hingedly connected to the strip 14, whereby said strip can be readily swung upwardly so that pots and pans which are comparative tall can be readily placed upon the top of the stove, after which the strip 15 can be swung to its normal position.
What is claimed is: p
In a device of the class described, the combination with a stove having a back plate, an oven supported by the plate, said oven having a false bottom inclined upwardly from each end of the oven, a pipe leading from the highest point of the bottom to the smoke pipe ofthe stove, a strip supported rigidly and longitudinally of the front of the oven, and a second strip hingedly connected to the first strip, as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature, in the presence of two witnesses.
ALVIN RUPPERT.
