'lVith these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, and the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.

Referrlng more particularly to the drawings, the reference numeral. 1 designates the head of the rake, thesame being formed by folding a light strip 'of sheet metal longitudinally upon itself, thereby providing a channel .2 between the forward portion 3 and the rear. portion A thereof. The lower edge of theforward portion 3 of the head isrolled upwardly and inwardly as at 5 to aid materially in strengthening said head,

The teeth f this improved rake are constructed from a continuous piece .of wire which is doubled upon. itself at predetermined distances throughout its length and twisted. The .portions of the wire connecting the adjacent teeth are. of inverted V-shape configuration as at7, while the ends of said wire are bent inwardly from the outermost teeth and anchored in any suitable manne'nlhere shown as'beingprovided withfeyes 8; which are connected to one of the V-shaped portions 7. As shown by Fig. ofthe drawings, theteeth 6' are curved longitudinally so as to enable them to more effectively-rake under the leaves or other trash, as'will be readilyunderstood.

The connected ends of the teeth 6 are-disposed in the channel 2 formed between the forward and- rear portions 3 and 4 respectively of the head and retained therein by suitable fastening elements, here shown in the form of rivets 9 which extend transversely through the head and are received in the vertices of the aforesaid V-shaped portions 7. As many 'of these rivets 9 as are necessary may be provided.

The rake is provided with a light wooden purpose to be hereinafter handle 10 from the lowerend of which ex- I 2 tends outwardly in opposite directions a pair of arms 11. The outer ends of the arms 11 are bent forwardly into a spaced parallel relation, then curved downwardly and provided with inwardly extending flat portions 12, the latter beingfirmly secured to the head 1 by any suitable means, but preferably by the aforesaid rivets v9. These arms 11 are preferably constructed of heavy wire, and in connection with the head 1v form a' substantially rectangular shaped frame.

The device as above described will be found to be very reliable in removing short ward lower edge 14: of which is disposed in.

This screen 13 has-its other sides conforming in shape with the aforesaid arms 11 carried by the handle, and is secured to said arms by suitable fastening devices, here shown in the form of rings 15. The screen may be made in a number of ways, but prefably it comprises a heavy wire frame having woven wire meshconnecting the sides and ends thereof. It is obvious that with such a screen extending above and rearwardly of the rakehead, a pocket is formed :into which the material raked up is gathered and retained during the of the rake.

From the above description, taken in con nection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and advantages of the deadvance movement vice will be readily understood without a more extended explanation.

As various minor changes in form and proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention, 1 do not wish to be limited to the construction herein shaped shown and described, other than that set forth in the appended claims.

I claim as my invention:

1. A device of the class described comprising a sheet metal strip folded longitudinally upon itself to provide a channeled head, the lower edge of the forward portion of said head being rolled upwardly and inwardly,a handle having means for connection to said head, a screen secured to said handle and having its forward lower side disposed in the rolled portion of said strip, and a plurality of teeth secured to said head.
