ISIDOR WINIDT, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DEVICE FOR SUPPORTING NON-SWIMMEBS OR ANIMALS DURING BATHING.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 12, 191%.
Application filed May 20, 1916. Serial No. 98,726.
To (Ill whom it may concern Be it known that I, Ismon \VINDT, citizen of the United States of America, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in .Devices for Supporting Non-Swimmers or Animals During Bathing, of which the follow ing is a specification.
The object of the present invention is to provide a device for supporting non-swimmers or animals during bathing or swimming and particularly designed to serve as an amusement or instruction device for bathers.
With these and other objects in view, my invention consists in the construction, arrangement and combination of parts as will be hereinafter fully described and set forth in the appended claims.
One embodiment of my invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which similar reference characters denote corresponding parts and in which- Figure 1 is an elevation of my device; Fig. 2 is a top plan view thereof; Fig. 3 is a vertical section on line 3-8 of Fig. 1 and Fig. 4 is a cross section on line H of Fig. 1.
The device comprises a body or member a preferably in form of a float or raft, which is adapted to extend over and float on the water. At one end said member is revolubly mounted on an axle b or other suitable stati onary support, which may be erected on or near the shore.
The body or member a may be revolubly attached to said support in any suitable manner.
According to the present example, I provide rigid arms cl, (5, having ball bearings c which engage around the stationary axle or support 7). Near the side edges of the raft or float I provide arms 6 from which the bathers may be suitably suspended, as shown in Fig. 4. In addition to or instead of said arms, hooks e or any other suitable suspension means may be provided. At the free end of the member a a post or standard f is secured, which at its upper end carries a cross piece f for the attachment of steering ropes g, chains or the like, which are adapted to extend to the shore and to be attached to and capable of winding around a. drum h revolubly mounted in a stationary frame 2' erected on the shore. operated by hand or otherwise.
A boat or boats j may be attached to the post f so as to be unable to capsize and which boat or boats may serve to receive the bathers during rough seas or strong surf.
The device is principally adapted to serve for amusement and at the same time for instruction to non-swimmers during bathing.
In use the float or raft by the manipulation of the drum h and the ropes or chains 9 is turned toward the shore to allow the bathers to be tied or otherwise suspended from the arms 6 or hooks e, and is thereupon swung back, away from the shore.
As the construction may be modified in various ways without departing from the,
spirit of my invention, I do not wish to restrict myself to the details described and shown.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A device for supporting non-swimmers or animals during bathing, comprising a floating rigid member extending in the water from a point near the shore, suspension means fixed to said member and a stationary support on the shore around which said member is rotatively mounted.
2. A device for supporting non-swimmers or animals during bathing, comprising a raft-like rigid member extending in the water from a point near the shore, suspension means fixed on said member, a support fixed on the shore and means at the shoreend of said member whereby the latter is rotatively mounted on said support.
8. A device for supporting n0n-swimmers or animals during bathing, comprising a raft-like rigid member extending in the water from a point near the shore, a series of suspension means fixed along the longitudinal edges thereof and a standard fixed on the shore and on which said member is rotatively mounted.
l. An amusement and instruction device for bathers, comprising a raft-like rigid member extending in the water from a point near the shore, a series of arms fixed along the longitudinal edges of said member, a standard fixed on the shore and bearings on the shore-end of said member whereby the latter is rotatively mounted on said standard.
5. An amusement and instruction device for leathers, comprising a raft-like member Said drum may be 7 extending in the Water from a point near the shore, suspension means along the 1ongitudi nal edges of said member, a standard fixed on the shore and brackets formed with bearings at the shore-end of said member and whereby said member is rotatively borne on said standard. a
6. An amusement and instruction device for bathers, consisting of a raft-like member adapted to float on the Water, suspension means on said member, a stationary support on Which said member is revolubly mounted, and means connected to the free end of said member and serving for the manipulation thereof.
7. An amusement and instruction device for bathers, consisting of a raft-like member adapted to float on the Water, suspension anember, a stationary support on which said member is revolubly mounted and a steering mechanism operatively connected to said member for swinging the latter.
In testimony whereof I al'lix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
