GAME APPARATUS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed'Au ust 9, 191a. I Serial no. 113,969.
and it is an object of the invention to provide a novel and improved game apparatus whereby a maximum of amusement is afforded.
It is also an object of the invention to provide a novel and improved game apparatus including a base board provided with depressions or pockets together with runways adaptedto receive the surface projectiles after the same have been impelled.
It is also an object of the invention to provide a novel andimproved game apparatus wherein a spinning member provided with projections is employed for imparting movement to the projectiles and wherein said projectiles are preferably spherical.
construction and in thecombination'and arrangement of the several parts of my improved game apparatus whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device is rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, all as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of the invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein a Figure 1 is a view in top plan of a game apparatus constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention; Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken through the apparatus as disclosed in Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a view in elevation of the spinning member as herein embodied; and Fig. 4 is a view in plan of a set of projectiles adapted to be employed in connection with my improved game.
As disclosed in the accompanying drawings, B denotes a base boardin the form of Patented Dec. ta, Iain.
a six-pointed star and having its marginal portions provided with the upstanding side strips 1 and with its top surface disposed on .7 a slight slope toward the center of the board.
Disposed transversely of each of the points of the star adjacent the top thereof is an upstanding cross strip 2 affording a pocket a and arranged in parallelism with the sides of the points are the upstanding strips 3 having theirforward ends slightly spaced relative to the strips 2 and with their inner or opposite ends connected. The
strips 3 are in close proximity to the marginal strips 1 and afford run-ways b for a purpose which will hereinafter be more particularly referred to.
The upper surface of each of the points intermediate the strips 2 have produced therein a plurality of depressions or pockets 4 preferably eight in'number so that each of said pockets or depressions 4 may represent one of the States of the Union.
The central portion of the base board B is provided with a series of pockets or depressions 5 preferably arranged concentric to the axial center of the base board. It is also preferred that the upper surface of the base board have produced at a central por- The invention consists in the details of resentations as herein disclosed representing the flag of the United States together with an American eagle, a representation of the White House, and a representation of the Statue of Liberty.
In playing the game each of the participants has forty-eight projectiles 6 spherical in form, each set having a distinguishing color. The projectiles 6 are positioned upon the intermediate portion of the game board B and a player is caused to spin a top-like member T having projecting therefrom a plurality of striking fingers 1 whereby it will be perceived that during the spinning of the top-like member T, the projectiles 6 are indiscriminately impelled and a projectile seating within one of the pockets or depressions 4 is counted as a vote but any of the projectiles seating within the pockets or depressions 5 are dead and do not count. The projectiles which enter within the run-ways b are termed repeaters and cannot be again used unless one player exchanges with a second player the projectiles which may be within the run-ways b. In the event of exchange the projectiles are returned to the central portion of the base board B.
The base board B is provided at a predetermined point inwardly of the connected ends of the strips 3 with the short strips 8 and any of the projectiles lodging therebehind are termed mugwumps and are out of play until the remainder-of the projectiles have been accounted for, and whereupon they are returned to the central portion of the board and the game continued. The pockets a afi'ord receptacles in which the projectiles 6 may be positioned.
From the foregoing description, it is thought to be obvious that a game apparatus constructed in accordance with my inven tion is of an extremely simple and comparatively inexpensive nature and is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without material departure from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice, except as hereinafter claimed. I claim:
1. A game apparatus of the character described including a base board provided with a marginal series of pockets in predetermined spaced relation, a series of'pockets arranged in the central portion of the game board, projectiles adapted to travel over the game board, and means for impelling the projectiles. the marginal portion of the game board being provided with run-ways, said run-ways being open at their opposite ends.
2. A game apparatus of the character described including a base board provided with a marginal series of pockets in predetermined spaced relation, a series of pockets arranged in the central portion of the game board, projectiles adapted to travel over the game board, means for impelling the projectiles, the marginal portion of the game board being provided with run-ways, and upstanding strips carried by the base board inwardly of the run-ways and at points intermediate the length of said run-ways.
3. A game apparatus of the character described including a base board provided with a marginal series of pockets in redetermined spaced relation, a series 0 pockets arranged in the central portion of the game board, and projectiles adapted to travel over the game board, the marginal portion of the game board being provided with runways said run-ways being open at their opposite ends.
4. A game apparatus of the character described including a base board provided with a marginal series of pockets in predetermined spaced relation, a series of pockets arranged in' the central portion of the game board, projectiles adapted to travel over the game board, the marginal portion of the game board being provided with run-ways, and upstanding strips carried by the base board inwardly of the run-ways and at points intermediate the length of said runways.
In testimony whereof I hereunto ailix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
ARTHUR A. HALLAM.
