IMPROVEMENT IN CAMERA-STANDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 120,790, dated November '7, 1871.

Beit known that I, CHARLES H. SNIVELY, of Millersburg, in the county of Dauphin and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Camera-Stands; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
The drawing is a representation of a vertical section of my invention.
This invention has relation to camera-stands, and the novelty consists in the construction and arrangement of devices by means of which the camera may be adjusted to any desirable height or position, as hereinafter described.
Referring to the accompanying drawing, A represents a square box, having an open top and supported by legs B. C designates a horizontal table, resting on four vertical posts, D, which fit within the four corners of the box A, and are adapted to slide up and down therein for the purpose'of adjustment. rThe table C rests also on a central vertical post, D', one side of which is furnished with a rack, d, with which engages a toothed-Wheel, d1, keyed to a transverse shaft, d2, and operated by means of a handle or crank, d3. By turning the latter the table C, with its attachments, may be raised or lowered, as desired. E designates a transverse clamping-screw, operated by a crank, E'. It is designed to adjust a pair of horizontal clamping-bars, F F',.in the latter of which it has its xed bearing. The ends of the bars F F' are supported and guided by parallel guide-bars Gr on opposite sides of the box A. The function of the clamping-bars is to press or clamp the posts D at any desirable position. H represents a horizontal table, pivoted on the upper side of the table C by means of a vertical pin, h, passing through a cleat, h1. A

its ends passing through the slots in the standards K. One end holds a thumbnut, L', to regulate the adjustment of the standards K. By raising or lowering these standards the incline ofthe frame I may be regulated as desired.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a camera` stand, the combination of the box A, table C, posts D D', rack d, and wheel d1, as and for the purpose specified.
2. The clamping-bars F F' and clamping-screw E, in combination with the adjustable table C, supported on posts D, as and for the 'purpose specified.
3. In a camera-stand, the combination of the adjustable pivoted table H, vertically-adjustable table C, hinged frame I, slotted standards K, and ltransverse bar L, as and for the purpose set forth.
