Be it known that T,HE1\*RY ill/V xen "Woon, a citizen of the United States, residing at- New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Machine for Making Stereotype Printing-Plates, of which thefollowing is a specification. I
This invention relates to a machine for finishing stereotype printing plates, and particularly for shaving-them. r
The principal objects of the invention are to provide a simple and efficient mechanism for shaving the plates one after the other, operating in suc'hqa way that the plates can be shaved as they are moved directly from the casting box on'a support, and to so -'arrangeand construct the shaving means that being shaved,- and consequently no mechanism will be required for pneventing such buckling of the plate; also to provide for conveniently and expeditiously trimming the edges of the plate if desired while it is ,being transferred to the shaving device. In the form of the invention illustrated, the plates A arecast' in a castingbox 10 -which constitutes means'for holding a cast pivot pin 13 on Which is pivotally mounted a finger 14 having a hook 15 011 the end having a slanting top and adapted to engage in a notch in the underside of the cast plate. A spring 16 holds the hook yieldingly in position for. engaging the plate so that upon the reverse motion of the sliding arm 12 the plate will be drawn out of the casting box longitudinally. drawn on a set of supports 11 certain of which are bifurcated to permit the hooks to pass between them. These supports are laterally adjustable along .a cross rod 17. As the hooks draw the plates out of the casting box the plates are brought against edge itrimming saws 20, and their edges are'f'thus trimmed 0E. These saws are operated by a belt driven in any desired way passing over' a pulley 21. If desired these saws can be entirely bmitted as shown in Fig. 3.
Whether or not theseedge trimming saws v are. present the plates are v shaved as they are drawn-out bythe hooks but while they I are firmly supported on the supports 11. This is done by means of a rotary shaver 25 mounted on a shaft 26 onwhich is a pulley 27 operated by a belt from any desired the plate passes under this rotary shaver it is firmly held by the hooksand rests on the supports. Therefore there is no danger of the plate buckling, andno'means has to be source of power. lt will be observed that as provided for avoiding this difficulty. The

In a machine for finishing stereotype printing plates, the combination with a support and a rotary shaving device located above said support in position to shave the plate as it is moved thereon, of a set of i pushers arranged to move transversely over said support to remove the plate therefrom in a line at right angles to its direction of motion under the rotary shaving device, and means at the side of said support for receiving the plate.
6. In a machine for finishing stereotype I printing plates, the combination with a support and a rotary shaving device located above said support in position to shave the plate as it is moved thereon, of a set of pushers, arranged to move transversely over said support-to remove the plate therefrom in a line at right angles to its direction of motion under the rotary shaving device.
