PATENT ROBERT 0. GRAVES, OF BARNESVILLE, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN STOVE-LIDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 120,738, dated November 7,1871.
u the lid. Fig. 2 is a drawing of the lid, representin g the under or opposite side. 0 represents the p inclined aperture running through the lid. D
represents the solid projections around the aperture. Fig. 3 is a drawing of an iron lifter which can be used for lifting the lds or other portable sections of stove tops provided with this aperture. Fig. 4 is a section in line w x of Fig. 1.
My invention relates to an improved method of lifting stove-lids or other portable sections of stove tops by means of an aperture through the lid or other portable section ofstove tops. The aperture begins at the top of the lid and runs through it at an angle. Themethod heretofore in use for the same purpose was a simple cavity in the lid; a cavity in the lid with a wire across i by prevent the insertion of the lifter.
it; a cavity with side lugs. The first was liable to fill up with coal, ashes, or other dirt, and there- In the second the wire soon gives way. In the third the lugs wear smooth and permit the lid to slip off the lifter. u In all of them the iron or other material of which it is composed is thinner beneath the cavity than the body of the lid. In my in- Vention the aperture runs through the heaviest part of the lid; hence it will outwear the lid. The aperture on the top of the lid is smaller than it is beneath; hence coal, ashes, or dirt that enters it will pass through into the stove. Hence, also, we have novelty, durablty, and cleanliness combined in a simple invention.
I claim as my invention- I An inclined aperture through a stove-lid or other portable section of stove tops, when used for the'purpose of removing said lid or portable sections of stove tops from the stoves or replacing them upon the stoves.
