longest label to be printed on the platen, a
lever arm pivotally connected to a body piece or bracket adapted to seat on either one of the hubs at the ends of the platen, a spring clamp secured to the body piece adapted to firmly grip the hub and providing means for the ready attachment to and removal of the clip from the platen, a spring for holding the clip against the platen, a manipulating knob'or handle by means of which the clip may be moved awayfrom the platen and a stop on the lever arm for limiting the distance the clip plate can be set v away from the platen. The device is so constructed that, when applied to a platen, labels may be securely held thereon and no obstruction ofi'ered to the proper working of the machine.
A practical e bodiment of the invention is illustrated in ialle accompanying drawings in which: i
Figure l is a perspective view of a label clip made according to this invention applied to a platen of a typewriting machine.
Fig. 2, an end view of the same: and Fig. 3, a view similar .to Fig. 2, showing a paper pan and pressureroller and the label clip in a osition to pass freely by them.
he platen 4 is of any of the usual constructions with end hubs 5 b which it is held on the shaft 6. The clip is composed of a thin metal plate transversely curved to fit thecurvature; of, the platen and, when held against the platen or with a label, (as indicated at 8), between it and the platen, it passes without obstruction by the pressure roller 9 and paper pan 10, as shown by the dotted lines 11, Fig. 3. This device afi'ords a simple and effective means for holding labels and other small sheets, either above or below the clip plate, on the rotary platen of typewriting machines and, as will be observed from its construction, it maybe instantly applied to and removed from the platen.
I claim:
1. A label clip for typewriting machines, comprising a thin metal plate adapted to lie close to the periphery of the platen and to extend part-way across it from one end,
and means for pivotally mounting the plate at one end of the platen to move about an axis parallel with that of the platen and for detachably connecting it therewith.
2. A label clip for typewriting machines, comprising a thin metal plate adapted to extend partway across the platen at one end, a bracket to which the plate is pivotally connected to move about an axis parallel with that of the platen, and means for detachably connecting the bracket to the platen at one end thereof.
3. A label clip for typewriting machines, comprising a thin metal plate, a bracket, a lever to which the plate is attached and which is pivotally connected with the bracket to move about an axis parallel with that of the platen, and means for securing the bracket to the platen.
:held in operative position by a spring 17 fastened between the forward end of the lethe clip and the platen. A tail piece 19 at 4. A label clip .for typewriting machines,
comprising a thin metal plate, a lever to which it is secured, a bracket to which the lever is pivotally connected to move about an axis parallel with that of'thejplaten, and means for detachably connecting the bracket with the hub of a laten.
5. The combinatlon with the platen of a 19 typewritingmachine of a label clip, comrising a thin metal plate, a lever to which it is attached, a bracket at the end of the platen to which the lever isv pivotally connected, and a. spring clip attached to the bracket and engaging a hub of;the platen.
6. The combination with the platen of a typewriting machine of a label clip, com-' prising a thin metal plate adapted to lie card holder, and a detachable connection for close to the periphery of the platen and having at one end an angular extension, a lever to which said angular extension is secured,
abracket to .whichsaid lever is pivoted, means for detachably connecting the bracket with a hub of the platen, and a spring for normally holding the clip close to the platen.
7. The combination with a platen, of a Copies of this patent may be obtained for menace the holder to the platen upon which connection the holder is pivotally mounted to swing about an axis parallel with that of the platen. p
8. A label clip for typewriting machines comprising a card holder adapted to lie close to the periphery of the platen and to extend 'partwayacrossit from one end, and means for pivotally mounting said holder at one end of the platen to move about an axis parallel with that of the platen, and for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of E'atents, Washington, D.
