Description

M. C. FRANK,
ATTACHMENT FOR ELECTRIC LIGHT SWITCHES.
APPLICATION FILED NQV. 29, l9l5- Patented. Dec. 5,1916.
. RANK I sans MAXWELL C. FRANK, 0F PIEDMONT, CALIFORNIA.
ATTACHMENT FOR ELECTRIC-LIGHT SWITCHES.
Application filed November 29, 1915.
ments for electric light switches and the like.
The object of the invention is to provide.
an attachment which may be applied to wall switches of electric lights, whether push button or turn button switches, or otherwise,
. for the purpose of rendering the same to Fig. 3, but showing the attachment colvisible at night or in dark places and can be easily found.
To this endthe invention consists in a vacuum cup, of rubber or equivalent ma terial, which may be applied to the button of the switch, or to the switch plate or other object adjacent thereto, said vacuum cup being provided with 'a luminous cap, whereby the switch button may be easily seen and found when it is desired to turn on the light.
In the accompanying one sheet of drawing I have illustrated for the purpose of this application, my invention in a number of views showing its use and advantages.
In tl1e drawing:-Figure 1 is a plan or top view showing a wall push comprising two buttons, one to turn on the light, and one to turn it off, with one'of my attachments applied to the button base adjacent to the same. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same. Fig. 3 is a sectional view, on an enlarged scale, showing the attachment of Figs. 1 and 2 when placed against the switch base, but not yet collapsed. Fig. 4c is a similar view lapsed, and firmly secured to the switch base. Fig. 5 is a similar viewto Fig. 2 but showing the attachment applied to one of the push buttons instead of to the base. Fig. 6 is a partial view, similar to Fig. 5, but showing the attachment in section. Fig. 7 is a top view, showing the attachment as applied to a turn'button, or snap switch. Fig. 8 is aside view of the same. Fig. 9 is a sectional view showing the attachment with a post for collapsing it, permanently attached to it. I
In these figures :1 is the base of. a wall switch, carrying the on and ofi but- Specification of Letters Patent.

tons 2, and secured by means of the screws 3. 1 is my attachment, applied to the base 1 adjacent to one of the buttons 2, preferably to the on button.
My attachment 4 (see the enlarged views Figs. 3 and 4) consists of the rubber vacuum cup comprising the body 5, having the thin edge (3, the concavity 7 and the stud portion S opposite the concavity 7. Upon the stud portion 8 is secured a glass or other transparent hemisphere 9, having a luminous lining 10 on its lnner surface, and having also ahole 11 in its apex. In applying the attachment l, it is first placed in the desired position, as seen in Fig. 3, and a pencil, or similar article, inserted through the hole 11 and pressed in until the vacuum cup is collapsed, as seen in Fig. 4. The cup will then adhere by virtue of the air pressure upon its exterior, and the luminosity of the hemispherical or other shaped cap 9 will suflice to render the switch buttons visible. IVhen desired an adhesive substance may be applied to the surface of the concavity 7. as shown at 12, see Fig. (3, to I base plate of the switch. applied to the wall 14, and 15 is the button. 5 is the collapsed cup, and 9 the luminous top of same.
In some cases it may be found desirable to use a permanently attached port 16, see Fig. 9, to collapse the cup, instead of a pencil, as already described.
Having thus described my invention, and an embodiment of it,.in the full, clear and exact terms required by law, and knowing that it comprises novel, useful and valuable improvements in the artto which it pertains, I here state that I do not wish to be limited to the precise construction and arrangement of the several parts, as herein set forth, as the same may be variously .modified by a skilled mechanic without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed. 1
What I claim and desire to secure by Lettels Patent of the United States, is the fol-- vacuum cup.
'4. Anattachment said vacuum cup, and forming a part thereof.
2.- An switches, comprising a rubber vacuum cup, provided with a central stud portion, atransparent hemispheric top secured to said stud portion, having luminous lining on its inner attachment for electric light and adapted to collapse said vacuum cup, a luminous top secured to saidv stud portion, and provided with a central hole for said post.
5. As a new article of manufacture, an attachment of the character described comprising a Vacuum cup provided, with an' adhesive applied to the bearing side thereof, a luminous top vsurmounted and secured to the opposite side of said cup, and said top having a central hole adapted for central direct application means for securing said cup in position.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereto set my hand, in the presence of two witnesses, this 10th day of November,
MAXWELL C. FRANK.
