Description
F. ROTH.
DEVICE FOR CLEANING BUTTONS.
APPLICATION FILED MAY 28, I9l5.
FREDERICK ROT'II, OF ELIZABETHPORT, NEW JERSEY.
DEVICE FOR CLEANING BUTTONS.
Application filed May 28, 1915.
To allwhom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK Born, a citizen of the United States, residing at Elizabethport, county of Union, and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Cleaning Buttons, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to a new and useful improvement in button cleaning or polishing devices, which is adapted to prevent the soiling of the garment adjacent the buttons by careless application of the preparation with which the buttons are cleaned, also when the device is in its applied position the buttons are prevented from wabbling or moving about and therefore enables the operator to more quickly and easily clean the same. Heretofore it has been known in the art to provide a structure in which there are two similar half parts hinged together or in some instances a single plate centrally slotted but in both of these cases unless some complicated means is employed the button is not held firmly enough and therefore moves about.
In the accompanying drawings similar let- .ters of reference indicate like parts.
Figure 1 is a plan view of a complete plate, Fig. 2 is another plan view illustrating a portion of the plate in its applied position and Fig. 3 is a section on line 33 Fig. 1.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, the reference character 1 designates a plate preferably rectangular in shape and provided with a central slot 2 at one end of which is an enlarged opening 3. In order to strengthen the plate and therefore give the same a good rigid construction both of the extreme side edges 4 and 5 and the edges 6 and 7 of the central slot are bent back upon themselves.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 28, 191%.
Serial No. 30,998.
Usually brass or metallic buttons are provided with a loop or eye by which the same is attached to the garment, and it is a known fact that buttons of a small size are provided with a smaller eye than that employed by a button of large size, so that the small buttons lie more closely to the garment than do the larger ones, To accommodate this difference between the large and small buttons and to sustain both in a rigid state when the plate is employed, portions of the plate 1, adjacent the central slot, are gradually bent downward as indicated at 8 and 9, therefore it will be seen that the plate at the edges of the slot will lie very close to the garment and'will accommodate the small buttons.
As illustrated in Fig. 2 A represents a garment to which the buttons 13 are attached, the plate is placed in position by inserting the buttons successively through the enlarged opening 3 and moving the plate slightly forward as each button is inserted.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A device of the character described comprising a plate provided with a slot, the surface of said plate being gradually reduced as it approaches the slot thereby providing a supporting surface for buttons of various cross sectional areas.
2. A device of the character described comprising a .plate provided wtih an aperture, the body of the plate as it approaches the slot being bent out of alinement with the rest of the plate thereby providing a supporting surface for buttons of various cross sectional areas.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
. FREDERICK ROTTI.
