INVENTOR I Kar/ C Randall.
ATTORNEY KARL c. RANDALL, or nnenwoon PARK, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR T0 WESTING- nocsn ELECTRIC AND- MANUFAQTURING COMPANY; A CORPORATION or PENN- SYLVANIA. i
- BINDING-POST ltpfilication filed February 3, 19 15.
J To all whom 2t may concern: Be it known that I, Kain, C. RANDALL, e 011116011 of the l nited'Statcs, and a resident of lldgewood ,lark', in the county of Alle;.
acter which will obviate the necessity of' providing clip terminals for fusible c0nductors that are attached thereto.
lleret-ofore, it has been necessary to pro-.
vide fusible conductors with clip terminals for preventing the same from being squeezed into a smaller-cross section and thus made liable to melt. when subjected to a current that is smaller than the normal fusing current. Since it has been found expensive to provide fusible conductors with clip terminals, l provide. a binding post that obviates the necessity of the use of such terinitials. I further provide a washerinemher that may be adapted to .any ordinary type of binding post for lllslll'lllg good electrieal contact,
l ie'ures 1 and 2 of the accompanying drawing are top plan and side elevational views respeetiveiy, of a binding'post' embodvina my invention; Fi 3 is a sectional .\'iew taken along the line TIL-TIT of Fig. l, and the. l is a sectional view taken along,
the line .l\ -lv of Fig. 'l.
A serew threaded post '1 is secured to a base member 2 by screwing it therein or by any other suitable means. The post member lis provided with an internally threaded knurled head nut El and a washer member l for purposes hereina'l'ter more fully set forth.
'lhe washer member lcomprises a metal disk having a central circular opening 5, a substantially flattened portion (3 innnediately surrounding the opening 5, a chamfer'ed portion 7 toward itsouter edges and a.
plurality of legs H. The let's 8 rest upon the base member 2 when they are forced downwardly by the nut. 3, and are bent at such an angle as to cause the washer member 4 to be resilient. The openings 9 between the Specification of Letters Patent.

legs 8 are of such size as to permit the insertion of a fusible conductor 10.
Inorder to secure the fusible conductor 10 to the binding post 1, it is inserted in one of the openings U anddisposed about the post 1. The nut 3 is then screwed down upon the washer member '-l, the portion 6 of which securely grips the fusible conductor 10, and the chamfered portion -7 of which permits the'pressu're exerted along the conductor 10 to be diminished gradually to thus not meterially decrease the cross section of the conductor. Thus, a fusible conductor may be secured to a, binding post without the necessity of providing clip terminals for the same.
The member 4: may be stamped from metal or constrncted in any other suitable manner and may be employed in any ordinary type of binding post irrespective of its application.
1 do not wish to be restricted to the particular construction shown and described, as
many modifications may be made within the spirit and scope of the invention, as set forth in the appended'claims.
I claim as my invention:
1. i\- binding post comprising a screw threaded member, a washer member having a plurality of resilient legsv and a body portion that is chamfered toward its outer edges, and a nut for engaging the washer member. v
'2. A binding post comprising a screw th aded member, anut therefor and a washer member having a portion chamfered units under side toward. its iouter edges and a plurality of resilient; legs."
3. A binding post for a fusible conductorcomynising a post'member, a clamping member, and a resilient washer member dis- ]msed between the clamping member and the fusible conductor and having a chamfered Patented N 017.28, 1916.
engaging face and a plurality of resilient i legs.-
4. A binding post for a fusible conductor comprising a screwthreaded post, an mternally threaded clamping member therefor.
and a washermember hav ng av chainfered under portion and a plurality of resilient legs, said washer member being disposed around the post and between the clamping member and the fusible conductor. I
5. A binding post for a' fusible'conducopening therein for receiving the post, a substantially tint portion surrounding the opening for gripping the fusible conductor, a portion ehunifered toward the outer edges and nplurulitv of feet for permitting the gripping of the conductor without Inateriullv diminishing its cross section.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto subscribed my name this 30th day of Jan,
KARL C. RANDALL.
