Be it known that I, ALEX \NDER L. SCHRAM, a citizen of they United States, and resident of Hillsboro, Montgomery county, Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lubricators for Sheet Metal, of which the following is a specificat ion containing arfull, clear, and7 exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
My linvention,relates to improvements in lubricators for sheet metal, in which there is a container for a fluid'body of lubricant, having therein a support for a roll of sheet metal, means for Vunwinding the roll and causingits unwound portion to be passed through the lubricant and which means acts to carry the lubricated sheet to a machine to act on the sheet metal, and a means for wiping the sheet so that a surplusage of lubricant is not carried away from the container.
The principal object of my invention is to construct a simple and inexpensive device for automatically feeding a press o1' other machine a sheet of material supplied with lubricant in order to facilitate the operation of the machine in its action on the material, and in order that the act of lubricating the material may be economically accomplished, both as to quantity of lubricant and operators time.
lVith the above purposes in view, my invention consists in certain novel details of construction which will be fully set forth in my specification, pointed out in my claims and illustrated by the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 shows in plan a machine embodying my invention; Fig. 2 is a simple, longitudinal sectional elevation; and 3 is a simple, transverse sectional elevation of the machine.
VReferring by numerals to the accompanying drawings: 5 designates a hollow standard carrying at its top a clamping ring 6.'
This hollow standard and clamping ring provide a vertically adjustable support for a post 7, having at its upper end an elbow 8 terminating in a. circular plate 9 provided with a centrally disposed internallythreaded bore and a pair of concentrically ar-y ranged slots 10.

lubricant, whichis provided in its bottomV with a screw plug 12 for drawing olf the lubricant when desired.V
Removably positioned within the tank is a rack comprising cheek plates 13, and a' plurality of rollers 14 in arcual arrangement, extending transversely of the tank.
The two longitudinal or side walls of the tank extend at oneend beyond the tank, and have ,their lowermost margins connected by a drain board 15, located in a plane above the normaly level of lubricant within the tank 5 and which drain board inclincs to-` ward the tank. These extended side walls over the drain board 15 have greater heights than the side walls of they tankl proper and in said walls are the open topped slots 16 in which are mounted the shafts 17 and 18. Located in the slots and bearing on said shafts arey the followers 19 and secured to the upper margins of the side walls spanning said slots are the bridge-bars 20, each having internally threaded vertical bores arranged to receive ther screws 21 which bear on the followers 19.
Mounted in the extended portions of the walls of the tank beneath the shaft 17 is a shaft 22, and secured toV rotate with the shaft 22 is a unit comprising a bevel-gear wheel 23 and a spur-gear wheel 24. The spur-gear wheel 24 is arranged to mesh with a spurgear wheel 25 secured to rotate with the shaft 17.
Extended longitudinally of the tank and supported in bearings 26, carried by the tank is a shaft 27 driven from a source of power (not shown) and carryinga bevel-gear wheel 28. The shafts 17 and 22 each carry a roller such as 29 and 30, which coact to move a sheet of material such as 31 taken from a roll such as 32 supported in the body of lubricant in the tank 11 on the rollers 14.
Located between the roll 32 and the feed rollers 29 and 30 is a fixed wiper 33, over which the sheet 31 is drawn, and arranged above the fixed wiper is a shaft 34, on which is pivotally mounted a rocker 35 having at its free margin a wipe-r 36,Y extending Vthe width of the tank over the fixed wiper 33.
Carried by the rocker 35 is an arm 37, upon which is slidably mounted a weight 38 carrying a set screw 39, whereby the toV weight may be held in different set posi-V tions lengthwise of said arm to provide for variable pressures between the wipers as required to supply the sheet of material with a thick or thin film of lubricant, as desired.
Mounted on the shaft 18 is a roller 40, and in a plane beneath but not vertically alining therewith is a roller 4l. These two rollers 40 and 41 coperate with the Jfeed rollers 29 and 30 to remove the curl from the material drawn from the roll 32.
Extending laterally from the tank is an arm 42 terminating in a semi-circle of the same radius as the plate 9, and which arm is perforated to receive a pin 43 having a threaded stem which seats in the threaded bore, referred to, in the plate l0. On either side of the pin and carried by the arm 42 is a pair of cap screws 44, which extend through the slots lO and seat in the arm 42.
By reason of the hollow standard, the post 7 and the clamping ring 6, I provide a means whereby the lubricating device may be altitudinally adjusted to adapt it for use in connection with machines such as presses whose tables or beds are of different heights, and the pivotal connection between the post 7 and the tank 1l provides for an angular adjustment to adapt the lubricator to machines whose lines of functionate operations are other than vertical.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new therein and desire to secure by Letters-Patent of the United States therefor, is:
In a machine of the class described, a tank, a drain board, a plurality of rollers in the tank for the support of a roll of sheet material, a pair of power driven rollers for moving the sheet material, a variable pressure gravity operated wiper and a pair of rollers in staggered relationship with each other for removing the curl 'from the sheet material and means for adjusting one of said rollers relative to the other.
