MOVABLE CHARGING nnvrcn ron A summon.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented N 21, 1916.
Application filed June 28, 1914. Serial No. 846,861.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHANN MARTIN.
WETCKE, a subject of the King of Prussia, residing at 14 Ktilnerstrasse, Duisburg, o-Gfermany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements. in a Movable Charg- 'ing Device for a Furnace; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and.
exact description of the invention.
The object of the invention is to provide '7 a new and improved charging device for placing the articles or materials, such as bar iron, pipes, sheet metal, ingots and the like to be heated and roasted into the fur- 15 name or oven and for allowing removal of" terial so'that the charging device is not un-- duly subjected to the heat and hence a long life is assured;
In order to accomplish the desired result, use is made ofa charging device adapted to pass sidewise' into and out of "the oven or furnace. 1
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a art of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figurel is a cross section of the improved charging device in position within the oven or furnace; Fig-2 is a longitudinal section of the same; and Fig. 3 is a diagrammatic plan view ofthe same.-
The carriage. A is provided with rolls B unsupported at one end. The rolls B can be raised and lowered a predetermined distance for instance by hydraulic or air cyl inders E and turned forward or backward by a suitable motor G mounted on the carme e or the like. The carriage A with the rol s mounte wise position of the carriage A' are inside the 5 oven and exten,d throughout the width thereof, and in another position of the carriage A the rolls'B are outside of the oven. In the hearth of the oven are openings or recesses G for the reception of the rolls B to allow the latter to enter while in lowermost position, as shown in Fig. 1. When the rolls are moved out of the oven the openin C can be closed by'doors F. v
or heavy'materials or art1cles,'use is made of bearings D for the reception of the outer free ends of the rolls B, the bearings direction.
thereon is movable side-. rails H so that the rolls B in one.
adapted' to be turned, and a track for the carriage extending at a right angle to one side of the furnace to allow of movingtha carria e sidewise to pass the rolls into, q
, D being located at-the sioeof the oven opposite the one having-the entrance for the rolls B. The bearings D are adapted to v be raised or lowered with the rolls B for do instance by separate cylinders I.
In front-only or in the front and in the rear of the oven are located sets of rolls K and L which when in raised position are flush with the top of the rolls B if the carso riage A. j v
The operation is .as follows: The article or material to be heated or roasted such as bar iron or the like is first placed on the rolls in front of the oven. Then the mov 7o able charging device is moved sidewise from its outermost position into the interior of the oven and then raised until the rolls B are flush with the front set of rolls supporting the articles or materials. The two sets of rolls are now turned so that the articles I or materials are moved forward until the position for heating is reached. Therotation ofthe rolls is now stopped and the rolls B are lowered and moved out of the 80, oven by moving the carriage away from the side of the oven, The operation takes but a short time so that the rolls B while within the oven are not unduly affected by the heat therein. After the heating or roasting is completed the carriage A and rolls B are returned and raised to lift the articles and materials o f the hearth, and then the rolls are rotated'to transfer the articles or materials either to the set of rolls at the front of the oven, or onto the set of rolls at the rear of the, oven, as desired, the rolls B and the front or rear sets of rolls 1 'ng turned in the corresponding 95. I claim as my invention: 1. A furnace provided with side openings, a carriage adapted to be raised and lowered, rolls mounted on the said carriage and out o the furnace.
'2. A furnace provided with side-openings; a carriage adapted to be raised and loweredi rolls mounted on the said carriage. an adapted to be turned,- a track for the can} 'riage extending at a right angle to one side j of the furnace to allow of moving the ear riage sidewise to pass the rolls into or out of the furnace, and delivery-and removing end rolls in the end of the furnace for as:
ing the material onto the set of rolls or rom the latter onto the end rolls.
3. Afurnace provided with a front opening for the introduction of the material to be heated, the furnace having side openings, a carriage movable toward and from the side openings of the said furnace, rolls mounted on the carriage and projecting therefrom, the rolls being adapted to pass .into and out of the furnace through the side openings, the rolls when within the furnace extending transversely of the same to receive and support the material introduced through the front of the furnace, and means for turning the said rolls to cause the same to carry the material to heating position.
4; A furnace provided with a front open ing and side openings, a charging device provided with rolls adapted to be moved into and outof the furnace through said side openings, andmeans at the front of the furnace for supportin thematerials to be heated and directing t e same through the 5. A furnace provided with a front opening and side openings, a charging device provided with rolls, means for raising and lowerin the chargingdevice and its rolls, the rol s of the charging device when in lowe'redposition being adapted to be moved into and out of the furnace throu h said side openings, rollsarranged at the rout of the furnace for supporting the material and assing the same onto the rolls of the chargin device when the latter are in raised 0- sition within the furnace, and means or turning the rolls of the charging device.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name-to this specification in the presence of two subscribing w'itnemes.
JOHANN IARTIN WE'IOKE.
