F1L- znn, a citizen of the United lStates, residing at Erie, in the county ot' Erie and State Qt' lenns'vlvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hydrocarbon- Torches; and l do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the'invention, such as will enable others skilled. in the art to which it ap pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, forming part of this specification.
My invention relates to hydro-carbon torches,` and has for its object the construction of a torch which is adapted to generate combustive gas from kerosene oil.; and in which, siight adjustment, alcohol or gaso lene may be used.

Secured in the out-dow end of the needle-valve casing B', is a tubular elbow member C, which has integrally secured to its-opposite end a. parallel'tubularvmember or cylinder C, the interior of which communicates with the interior of said elbow member C. Fitting against one end of the cylinder C, is another tubular elbow member C2, which is retained iii-place by means of a screw-rod C3, whiclbextends through the cylinder member C", andern gages the elbow member C2, said screw-rod C3, being provided with an enlarged portion rf, adapted to fit the opening,V in the cylinder member (l, and is also provided with a handle C4. which tits against the outer end of the c vlindcr member C, so that when the screw-rod C3, is operated, the elbow member C2, may be tightened or loosened as ma;v be desired for the purpose of changing! the angle ot' the elbow member C. with relation to the needle-valve casing B. Secured in the elbow member C2, is a tubular member D. In the opposite end of the tubular member D, is secured one end E, of ar lgenerator tube` the intermediate portion oiE which has formed therein a series ot helical coils e, the opposite end E, of said lgenerator tube being lsecured in a return-bend tubular member F, which is secured upon and supported by the tubular member l). To maintain'the cup-frame K. in position under the eomhustion frame J. l provide an overlapping oai-Jl. on the frame J, which overlaps the cup K. and is provided with a hook 5F. which enters an opening in the. Side el' the cup li, and then the extinguishing plate l1. prevents the raising of the front ond of the cup l, so that the, same cannot, slip off of the hook (f2. l also provide a latch L. which is pivoted on the frame fl, and is adapted to overlap the edge. of the extinguisher l1. so that, the same will remain inl place between the, frame .l and eup K.

The latch y. is now lifted and the part G', of the shell. allowed to close. and the latch operated to retain the shell closed. The extinguisher plate is then closed in between the frame J, and cup K. and locked. The handle C, is then operated. and. the angle, of the generator adjusted as may he desired. (See Fig. l.)

Having thus shown and described my invention so` as to enable others to construct and operate. the same, what l claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is

In an apparatus of the class described, a generator shell, a helically coiled tube in the front endthereof having the ends thereot' extending rearwardly out ot' the rear end of said shell, means to supply fluid t0 one end of said tube, a gasjet concentric vwith the rear end of said shell, a tubular connection between the opposite end of said helically coiled tube and said gas-jet, and a gas and air mixing:r tube within the rear end of` said shell between the ends of said helically coiled tube, said mixing tube extending from the rear end of said shell to a point adjacent to the rear coil of said helically coiled tube, substantially as set forth.

In an apparatus of the class described, a helically coiled tube., a shell inclosing said tube, helical ribs on the interior surface' of said shell which enter the spaces between the several coils of said tube, a gas and air mixing tube concentrically .arranged in the rear portion of said shell, a jet tube sup--v ported adjacent to the rear end of said gas` and air mixing tube, a tubular connection between one end of said helically coiled tube and said jet tube, and means to supply fluid to the other end of said coiledtube, substantially as and ior the purpose set forth.
