ANTISKID DEVICE.

To all whom itmay concern Be it known that we, EowAno P. HArNnn and J oIiN T. Ronnn'rs, citizens of the'United States, residing at St. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Antiskid Devices, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.

Our invention hasrelation to improvements in anti-skid devices for vehicle wheels; and it consists in the novel features of construction more fully set forth in the specification and pointed out in the claiml The object of our invention is to provide a vehicle wheel with an anti-skid device which can be readily applied a out the tire of the wheel; one which sha devices, and h one possessing further and other advanta es fully apparentfrointhe following detailed description of the invention in connection with the accompanying drawings in which- Figure 1 represents a side elevation of one half of a vehicle wheel showing our-invention applied thereto; Fig. 2.isan enlarged though of course we do not wish to'be re-- stricted in theapplication of our inventionto any particular construction of wheel.

Disposed at, convenient points along the felly R, are plates or anchors 1, the same being substantially oblong in shape and mounted lengthwise across the felly as shown (Fig. 2). One end of the anchor-plate terminates in'an elongated hook 2, the opposite end terminating in an open eye 3, the clearance at between the free end of the loop forming the eye and the plate being just sufficient to allow for the passage into the eye of the adjacent terminal oblong link 4 of the anti-skid chain 5. The members 2 and 3 are oppositely disposed along the longitudinal axis of the plate 1, the elongation of the hook 2 being in the line of said axis,

Having described our invention what we Y claim is I In combination with a vehicle-wheel felly, a plate secured across the inner face of the felly, a chain having an elongated link at one end and a circular ring at the opposite end, .the plate terminating at one end in an open eye with a clearance between the plate and terminal of the loop forming the eye,'.

just sufficient to receive the elongated link 1 aforesaid, the opposite end of the plate terminating in a hook-disposed in the line of the axis of the-plate and parallel to the plate, the hook being elongated to form a deep pocket for the reception of the terminal ring of the chain and shaped so as to prevent said ring from being removed without first removing the elongated-link, as set forth.
