Patented Nov. 7, 19116.
Application filed May 3, 1916. Serial No. 95,127.
Nebraska; have invented a' new and useful Flag-Holder for Automobiles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the inventlon, such as will enable others skilled in the art to whichoit appertains to make and use the same. This invention relates flag holder for automobiles and the like, and an object of the invention is to provide a device of this kind, in which improved features of construction are involved.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a flag holder having a plurality of same pivots, that ally extending curved flag stafl sockets, which are pivoted to a plate so as to be adjusted in difierent pivoted positions whereby the flag stalls may be held in diil'erent positions.
One of the features of the invention is'the provision of spring means, carried by the pivotally .support the sockets upon the plate.
in practical fields the details of construction may necessitate alterations falling within the scope of what is claimed.
The. invention comprises further features and combination of parts. to be hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings and. claimed.
In the.drawingst-Figure 1 is a view in I elevation of portions of the stays of the top of an automobile. showing the improved flag support'as applied thereto. Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail perspective view of the flag holder detached from the stays. Fig. 3 is a view in elevation of the flag holder. Fig. 4 is a sectional view on line 44- of Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a' detail section view on line 55 of Fig. 3. 4
Referring more especially to the drawings, 1 designates one of the stays of the top of an automobile, and 2 denotes a plate, the lower portion of which terminates in laterportions 3 having ears 4, each of which is provided with an aperture 5. The aperture of one ear is threaded, and extending through. the aperture of the other car is a bolt 6 which threads into the threaded aperture of the opposite ear, thereby clamping the curved portions of the plate to the stay 1. 'lh l p-- to the art of supports, and more especially to an improved per portion of the plate 2 is sector shaped and pivoted by means of the rivets 7 to the plate is a plurality of tubular sockets 8,
9 and 10. Each of the tubular sockets has 60 its opposite end open, and the upper end of each socket is beveled oil, as shown at 11. Also secured by the rivets 7 and extending Into the sockets are leaf springs 12 which act to hold flag 7' justed positions. The lower portion of each leaf spring terminates in a slight lateral shoulder 14, to be engaged by the lower end of the flag staff, thereby preventing the staff from being pushed the socket: However, by exerting suflicient force on the staff, its lower extremity can be forced past the lateral shoulder 14 of the leaf spring, so that the staff may be adjusted longitudinally through be noted that the socket may be adjusted angularly in different positions. In other words, the sockets may be disposed vertically, or the center socket arranged vertically and the other two thereto, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, or all of the sockets may be disposed in inclined positions rearuuirdly and upwardly, or in inclined positions upwardly and forwardly, 5
the same to a support, a plurality of stall sockets pivoted to said sockets may be adjusted positions, each of sad able clamping plate, whereby said in dili'ere'nt angular sockets having yieldnicans to frictionally engage the staff tohold the same in different ad- 95 justed'positions longitudimilly through-the U socket.
2. A flag stail holder comprising a body plate. a plurality of tubular sockets, means for pivoting said sockets to the plate, where- 100 by the sockets may'be adjusted in different positions, each of said sockets having its upper open end beveled off. to permit the staff to be inserted, a leaf spring secured by said pivoting means and extending into the socket and designed to frictionally engage a staff to support through the socket.
3. A flag stafl' holder comprising a body plate, a
for pivoting said sockets to the plate, whereby the sockets may be adjusted in different staffs 13 in dill'erent adentirely through the socket. It is to sockets at angles 30 the same in adjusted posi 'tions longitudinally plurality of tubular sockets,'means positions, each of saidsockets having its 'upper open end beveled off, to permit the staff to be inserted, a leaf spring securedby said pivoting means and extending into the socket and designed to frictionally engage a staff to support the same in adjusted positions longitudinally through the socket, the
lower end of each leaf spring being pro- .\'ided with a shoulder to be engaged by the lower extremityof the stall to support the 10
