As clearly shown in Fig. 5, the four hand wheels 6 are each provided with a corresponding drum g, which is operatively connected therewith through the intervention of a clutching device which will be hereinafter described. Adjacent to the drum g on thc shaft n. is loosely mounted a sheave s which is driven at a uniform speed by a motor 2 through a rope oi belt drive, g. The drum g is provided with a spring controlled pin r, the tapered head of which'is adapted to project and engage with a radial pin p provided on the shaft n. lVhen` these two parts are in engagement the shaft n will serve to impart rotary movement to the drum y. Owing to the conical formation of the head of the pin 'r the radial pin p on the shaft will tend to displace the drum in the right hand direction along the shaft n but this movement of the drum is prevented owing to the boss thereof abutting against the boss or the sheave s. portion of the boss of the sheave s is provided with an internal thread tand a corresponding male thread 1lis formed on the shaft n adjacent thereto. The arrangen'ient is such that when the shaft n is at rest. or rotating at a speed which is equal to that of the sheave s, there will be no tendency for the thread u4 to engage with the internal thread t. Should. however, the speed of the shaft 'n exceed that of the sheave s, the thread 'uA will pass into engagement with the thread t and thereby displace or draw the sheave in the right hand direction along the shaft against the action of the spring 7. rlhis movement of the sheave will permit oi -the drinn r/ moving in the same direction to 'allow the pin r thereof to disengage from the radial pin p on the shaft n.
