Description

UNITED STATES ANNA DAVIS, OF RENO, NEVADA.
IMPROVEMENT IN WARDROBES.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 120,370, dated October 31, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANNA DAVS, of Reno, county of Washoe and State of Nevada, have invented an Improved Wardrobe; and I do hereby declare the following description and accompanying drawing are suiicient to enable any person skilled in the art or science to which it most nearly appertains to make and use my said invention or improvements without further invention or experiment.
My invention relates to a simple, convenient, and cheap wardrobe, which can, if desired, be folded into a small compass and stowed away in a trunk as baggage.
In use it also presents many advantages over ordinary wardrobes, as it can be hung up anywhere on a wall or in a closet and be a perfect protector of whatever is placed in it.
In order to explain my invention so that others can understand the same, reference is had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in which- A A are two light frames, which may be made of metal or other material and of any desired shape or size. These fram es are hin ged together at one side, so as to open from the opposite side and form, when closed, a double frame. Extend ing from end to end and from side to side of each of these frames are rods or bars b, which are bent so as to form a concave skeleton-frame of each, `as shown, so that when the two are closed they will have the appearance of the skeleton of a large porte-monnaie. The outside of these frames can then be covered with cloth, leather, or other suitable material, m, so as to form a receptacle for the clothing. To the upper cross-bars b, inside of the wardrobe, are fixed small hooks, c c, upon which the clothing is hung. To the upper end of each of the sides of this wardrobe is secured an eye, d, by means of which the wardrobe is suspended from a wall by means of my wardrobe-bracket. This bracket consists of two arms, e e, having hooks f at their extremity, while the opposite ends are hinged to a short arm, g. The arm g has a pintle, h, which enters a socket, i, in the plate j. The plate j is to be secured to the walls by screws or otherwise, and the bracket attached by inserting the pintle h in the socket. The hooks f at the extremity of the hinged arms e e are then inserted in the eyes d of the frames A, so as to suspend the frames or wardrobe from the bracket. When it is desired to open the wardrobe it can readily be donc, as the arms e will open with the sides or frames and support them at all times.
Having Vthus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
The folding wardrobe, consisting of the frames A A, ribs b, and cover m, hinged together as described,in colnbination with a swiveling-bracket having hinged arms c e, substantially as and for the purpose above described. c
In witness that the above-described invention is claimed by me I have hereunto set my hand and seal.
