To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, TADEUSZ LAMPE and FELIKs PRZEGIEGHOWSKI, subjects of the Czar of Russia, and residing at -Warsaw, Russia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle-Washing Machines, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to a bottle washing machine for cleansing bottles within and without, from dirt adhering thereto, by means of rinsing liquids.
A construction of the apparatus embodying the invention is shown by way of example in the accompanying drawing, in which,

The compartments a (Fig. 2) of any length are formed by axially extending flat plates q lying at radially spaced intervals, the said plates being connected by means of bars a to rings or plates 25, t. The so formed and strengthened annular body is'connected by radial arms I) with a hub o in such a manner that the hub o and the arms Z; and the said annular body form together a wheel or carrier. The hub '12 is keyed to a shaft .0, revoluble in bearings 99 of a casing 0, surrounding the carrier and serving at the same time as a liquid receptacle.
The casing or liquid receptacle 0 is formed by two parts the upper. part being detachably fixed to the lower part by means of screws or the like. The carrier is rotated in any suitable manner, for instance, by means of a mechanically driven disk 0 mounted in bearings r fixed to the casing 0.- Keyed to the fre'eend of the rotatable shaft of the disk 1' is a crank 1' the end of which is 'pivotally. connected with a link P, the other end of which is rotatably held by an arm a, rotatably. mounted, on the said shaft 0. A further arm Z is pivotally conby the arm n and passes through an aperture in the casing 0 and is provided with a pawl,the latter engaging teeth 8 formed on one of the outer rings 23 of the said annular body and rotating thereby the body in the direction indicated by the arrow when power is applied to the disk 7".

A ring (Z is stationarily mounted ata short distance from and fixed to the one end wall of the apparatus, said ring with an aperture opposite to an opening 6 in the side wall of the receptacle. Before the opening 0 an inclined chute g is provided. A further inclined wall it is attached to the casing 0 at the opposite side beneath an opening 7 therein, the lower end portion of the wall h being formed. as a trap.
The bottle 2' to be cleaned is placed upon the inclined feeding plate 9, drops in through the opening 6 into the section located in front thereof, and is carried away in the direction indicated by the arrow (Fig. 2). 'Now the bottle is shifted automatically laterally to the right in the compartment by the inclined cam terminal of the ring cl, and at the same time uniformly rotated aboutits axis, incidentally enhancing the cleansing function, and finally occupies the position indicated by Z. At the same time thebottle 70 located at the extreme right hand end is forced, owing to the lateral pressure exerted by the other bottles in thesection, to pass through the opening 7 and drops into the trap it. During the continuous rotation of the wheel the bottle 71 travels in the compartment, from the left hand to the right "hand, is submerged in the liquid, is filled with the latter, reaches the level of the opening 6 is shifted to the right to the extent of its diameter by the bottle inserted next, attains the position indicated by; 2, is emptied and travels in the described manner, remaining always in the same compartment, through the positions 3, 4 and so on, until 8, and finally attains the position of the bottle is after it has been filled and emptied several times, whereupon it is thrown out of the compartment into the trap h.
From the foregoing ings of'this application it will be obvious being formed that in the operation of this device the cam terminal d of. the bears a distinctly advantageous relation to annular ring member (Z the intake pointofthe casing, the cam be- 7 ing of a throw equal to the diameter. of a bottle so that substantially as one bottle is entering the compartment just opposite the intake opening another bottle will be discharged automatically from said compartment through the opening in the casing at 100 description and drawthe opposite side thereof. It will be apparent that the incoming bottle is rotated by its frictional contact with the cam (Z and that the other bottles are rotated by contact with said incoming bottle. The formation of the chute g on an incline enables the bottles to be fed automatically while being stacked on this chute and allowed to roll down into the carrier as the unoccupied space is presented. The annular member or ring (Z in rear of the intake opening constitutes means for retaining the bottles in the successive compartments of the carrier against movement in the direction for occupying the excess space in the respective compartment exposed at the point of the intake opening. Thus it is that the newly supplied bottle is in excess of the number of bottles which the carrier is capable of accommodating, resulting in the lateral ejection of the bottle, from the discharge end of the compartment, Which has been longest in the carrier. In performing this function it is quite obvious that the bottles are caused to rotate, as hereinbefore premised, into and out of position. It is further to be particularly noted that the discharge opening of the casing is located in advance of the plane of the intake opening and, of course, at the opposite side of the carrier, a
distance approximately equal to the dimen sion of a compartment in a circumferential direction,- the intake opening itself being disposed above the lower portion of the casing of the apparatus.
In carrying out the construction of the device it is desirable that each of the com partments which extend axially of the carrier should be of a length in an axial direction equal substantially to a multiple of the diameter of the bottles to be washed, this insuring the physical one with the other and preventing likelihood of breakage in the rolling operation described with reference to the discharge of the bottles successively from the machine.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the. nature of our said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, we declare that what we claim is 1. 3. In bottle washing apparatus, the combination of a carrier, means dividing said carrier into radial compartments, a confinfeeding opening and in the path of each the compartfreshly fed bottle disposed to shift such bottle and all contained *bottles in the re-.
spective compartment axially of the carrier the distance equaling the diameter of a bottle, a discharge opening being formed inf the casing substantially in the plane of the ejecting means at the opposite end of the casing from the feeding opening, the feeding opening being above the lower portion of the casing and the discharge opening being above the plane of the feeding opening a distance approximately equal to the dimension of a compartment in a circumferential direction, said lower portion of the casing being adapted to contain a cleansing fluid.
4. In a bottle washing apparatus, the combination of a carrier, means dividing the carrier into compartments, means for rotating the carrier, an intake opening for delivering bottles to the com partments in a direction axially of the carrier, a discharge opening in advance of the plane of the intake opening and at the opposite side of the carrier, a cam substantially in the plane of the discharge opening for ejecting bottles from each compartment snccessively incident to the presence of a bottle in excess of the carrying capacity of Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the the respective compartments beyond the cam, the actual carrying capacity of each compartment being one bottle in excess of the last-named capacity, and means in the rear of the intake openlng for retaining contained bottles in successive compartments against movement in the direction for occupying the excess space in the respective compartments exposed at the point of the intake opening.
