Referringto Figs. 4 and 5, in'which we have shown just enough of the mechanism to lillustratel one of the methods of using our lock, and it is not thought necessary to go 'pinto the details thereof, but it will be -seen that the vehicle is provided `with a foot lever 31 suitably secured to thevvagonand having a vlink 32 vconnecting it to the operating rod 33, which throws the plungers 34 out between the Vspokes Ofthewheels to rod 33 is connected tothe rod 12 by Vthe coupling 36, so that-it will be seeny that the rod 33 is controlled by the rod 12 and there- 'fore the rod 12 controls thev entire mechanism. f
The operation of this device is very sim@ Cio ple. When the `driver pushes the lever 31 forward, the link 32 causes the rods 33 and 12 to move forward and the mechanism in the casing 35 throws out the plungers 34 and at the vsame time the conical locking member 13 presses between, the faces 11 of the links 9 and forces them apart and passes into the chamber 19, and the spring 10 causes the faces 1l to snap behind the locking member 13 and thus holds everything in its looked position. When it is desired to release the vehicle, the key is inserted into the lock and given quarter of a turn, and the cam 22 turns, and the cams 23 and 211 acting against the faces 25 and 2G cause the arms 9 to swing apart and release the locking member 13, and the mechanism in the casing returns all the parts to their normal positions.
Having fully described our invention, it will be seen that we have accomplished the foregoing objects, and what we claim as our invention is:
1. The combination of a casing, inclosing a substantially flat chamber, a pair of arms pivoted in the vcasing to engage at their free ends, a spring connecting the .arms to yieldably retain them in engagement, the arms having registering channels at their engaging portions, the casing also having opposite extensions at one end to form a transversely extending chamber into which the engaging ends of the arms project, a plunger slidable in the transverse chamber extending between the arms, a conical abutment on the plunger arranged to engage the arms to separate them and to be locked in advanced position by the arms, the casing having an extension at an intermediate portion to provide a cylindrical chamber, a lock of the pin-cylinder type mounted in said chamber, a cam controlled by said lock and positioned between the arms to swing them apart on turning of the lock.
2. rI`he combination of a casing, a pair of f wthe arms having registering channels at their engaging portions, a plunger extending into the casing and between the arms at said channels, the plunger being slidable in a path parallel with the axes of the arms, a conical abutment on the plunger arranged to engage and swing the arms when advanced, and to be retained by the arms in advanced position, a lock extending into the casing, and a cam operated by the lock' and arranged to engage and swing the arms.
3. The combination of a casing, inclosing a substantially flat chamber, a pair of arms pivoted in the casing to engage at their free ends, the casing also having opposite extensions at one end to forma transversely extending chamber into which the engaging ends of the arms project, a plunger slidable in the transverse chamber and extending bctweeii the arms, an abutment on the plunger arranged to engage the arms to be locked in advanced position by the arms, the casing having an extension at an intermediate portion to provide a cylindrical chamber, a lock of the pin-cylinder type mounted in saidchamber, and a cam controlled by said lock and positioned between the arms to swing them apart on turning of the lock.
