PATENT QEEIoE.
IMPROVEMENT IN VENTILATCRS,
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 120,138, dated October 17, 1871; antedated October 4, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, REUBEN WHITE, of Boston, county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Ventilators, of Which the following is a specification:
The nature of my invention consists in constructing in the interior'of a living room a metallic cylinder or otherwise conveniently-shaped reservoir, into which the cold fresh air from out of doors is introduced by suitable conduits. This metal chamber or reservoir is made of foraminous sheets or of Wire-gauze, and is so arranged that it Will partake of the Warmth of the room, either by receiving' the radiated heat from the Warming apparatus, or by contact with the internal air of the room, and Will give out heat thus received to the incoming fresh air, Which, as it has to pass through the small openings in the Walls of the reservoir, is thoroughly diffused and considerably warmed, the object of my invention being to introduce fresh. air to a room and avoid cold currents.
Figure 1 is a perspective, View showing my invention in connection with a Window. Fig. 2 is an elevation, showing the distributer and a connecting-pipe.
\ Let A represent a cylinder, Which is to be made of perforated sheet metal, or of Wire-gauze, and of a size proportioned to the number of people usually occupying the room. The reservoir is connected with the external air by the pipe B, which may be connected with the Window by the board O, or may pass through the Wall. D, Fig. 2, represents the housing over the'exposed end of the pipe B, and serves to prevent rain or snow from being blown in, and also to keep out the Wind. E is a valve to regulate the amount of air to be admitted.
This reservoir may be located in any part of the room, and, if desirable, it may be attached to a iieXible tube, so as to be movable in the room.
I claim as my invention- The foraminous reservoir A, in connection With the air-conduit B, When made and arranged substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
REUBEN WHITE.
