To all whom may concern Be it known that I, AUGUST HUBERTY, a

citizen of the United States, residing at- Canton, in the county of Stark and State of 5 Ohio, have invented a new and useful Snow- Shovel, of which the -following is a specification. y

My invention'relates lto improvementin snow shovels, in which traveling wheels are employed, and means for removing the S110 from the shovel.

At the rear of the shovel blade 1. is lo-` cated' the bracket which is made up ofthe attaching plate 6,' the upright portion 7, the handle attaching iange 8, the yoke attaching iange 9 and the slotted upright or guide 10. The handle l1 is formed -of a length sufficient to provide suitable leverage to `move the forward portion of the shovel blade lupward and Aaway from the ground after it has been properly loaded. The handle 11. is preferably attached to the flange n 8 by means of suitable-cross rivets or bolts 12, but the particular manner of attaching the handle 11 is immaterial, reference being had to a rigid connection whereby the shovel proper can be' manipulated. In use the shovel proper is moved forward a suffcient distance to gather `snow upon the blade 1, it being understood that at this time the push' head orl blade 13 should be in the position shown inI Figs. 1 and 2, said push head or blade being brought into the .position'shown' bythe actuating -rod 14,

which actuating rod extends rearward and preferably above the handle 11, the rear end thereof being curved upward and provided: with the grip ring 15 or its equivalent.

In Fig. 2 I have illustrated in dotted lines the push head or blade moved forward, by which movement the load contained upon the shovel blade l, is removed by the scraping action of said push head upon the upper surface of the shovel blade 1.

For the purpose of guiding the actuating rod, the slotted extension 10 is provided, through which slotted extension the actuating rod passes. For the purpose of limiting the movements of the actuating rod 14 and the push head 13, -said actuating rod is provided with the cushion stops 19 and 20, said stops coming in contact with the opposite faces of the slotted extension 10. I prefer to employ cushion stop blocks, preferably made of suitable yielding material,

which may be short sections of hose, so that in actuating the push-head sudden jars or shocks will be removed from the hand of the operator. l

It will be understood that a rigid connection should be made as between the pushhead 13, and the actuating rod 14 and in order to' provide for such connection I employ the jam nuts 21 located upon opposite sides ofthe push head or blade 13. It will be understood that when the handle is pressed -down so as to throw the entire weight of the load upon the traveling wheels 5 more or lessr strain is brought about and in order to give the desired rigidity, as between the handle 11 and the shovel blade proper the flange 9 should be connected to the yoke 3 and the flange 6 to the axle 4 or tothe under side of the shovel blade 1, by which arrangement the rigidity of the yoke 3 is utilized and the strain distributed to the opposite sides of the` shovel blade 1. l

The forward edge of the shovel blade 1, may if desired, be provided with the reinforcing strip4 22, which reinforcing strip may be of the form shown or of any other desired form, as its only object is to stifen the forward edge of the shovel blade. It will be understood that by the use of the push head or blade 13 that it will act as a back for the shovel blade, the snow or other material being moved backward and in contact with said push head Aduring the time the shovel is moved forward to gather a load of snow or other material.

While the present invention is especially designed as a snow shovel, I do not desire to be confined to any specific use as it will be' readily seen that regardless of the material designed to be removed, the action of theshovel will be the same.

If desired, the plate 6 and the axle 4 may be riveted or bolted together or the plate 6 may be riveted or bolted to the under side of the shovel blade as desired.

Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

1. In a device of the character described, the combination of a shovel-blade, an axle secured to the rear end of the shovel-blade, traveling wheels mounted uponsaid axle, a handle-bracket secured in fixed relationship with reference to the shovel-blade, a push head slidably mounted upon the shovelblade, an actuating rod secured to the push head, a ide flange located at the upper end of t e handle-bracket, ,said vactuating rod passing through the guide iange and adapted to guide the actuating rod.

2. In a device of the character described, the combination of a shovel-blade, a yoke fixed to said shovel-blade, an axle secured to said yoke and said axle provided with traveling wheels, a bracket located at the rear end of the shovel-blade, said` bracket made up of an axle attaching plate, an upright portion, ahandle connecting fiange, a guide fiange, and a yoke attaching flange, a push head slidably mounted upon the shovel-blade, an actuating rod secured to said push head and passing -through the guide flange of the bracket, means for limiting the movements of the actuating rod and
