NON-REFILLABLE BOTTLE. I
su-wd Specification of Letters Patent.
Application led Gctober 28, 1914. Serial No. 869,05/6. i
To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, COLEMAN F. COOK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in No'n-Relillable Bottles, of which the following is a speciiication.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in a bottle and more particularly to a bottle of the non-reiillable type.
The primary object of thev invention is the provision of a bottle of this character which is simple and inexpensive in construction and will have the outward appearance of the bottles now commonly in use. g
A further object of the invention is the construction of a bottle havinga frangible neck so that when the neck of the bottle has been brokenit cannot be again sealed'.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a sealing cap which may be easily inserted in the neck of the bottle and i cannot be removed.
With these and other. objects in view the invention consists in the novel details of construction and arrangement of parts which -will be more clearly understood from the.
.following description and drawings, in
j so
which,
- Figure l is a vertical section through a. portion of the neck of the bottle. Fig. 2 is a top plan view with the seal in position.
Fig. 3 is a top view of the sealing cap. Fig. 4: is a view in side elevation of the sealing cap, and Fig. 5 is a side elevation of a slightly modified form of the invention.-
In the drawings, the numeral l indicates the neck of the bottle having. the enlarged head 2'and a groove 3 is formed on the interior of the enlarged head 2. vThe neck is weakened, at il, by means of a scratch so that the enlarged head 2 may be broken from the neck.
v A'iexible and expansible corrugated disk:v 5 of the shape shown in Figs. 3 and 4c of the v drawings is provided for sealing the bottle.V 1 p I claim as new and desire to'secureby Letl y The disk 5 is normally in the contracted shape shown in Figs. 3 and 4i, and when it is v inserted into the bottle pressure is applied till thereby expanding the disk so that the edges 5 will enter the ove 3 formed in the enlarged head 2. 'iiihen the disk is expanded it will assume the diameter shown by dotted lines in Fig. 3.
A cork disk 7 is received on the end of the neck beneath the sealing disk 5 and forms an air tight Joint.
` cular In the modified form of the invention as Patented oet. e, reis.
shown in 5, I have provided a bottle adapted to receive a cork after the neck has rovided the modiiedform shown. In this orm of the invention I provide the neck l the same as in the preferred form of the inv vention which has the'enlarged head 2. A cork is adapted to be lreceived in the neck beneath the sealing disk asy is'-'shown in dotted lines in this figure and in order that the cork may be removed after the neck is broken the neck is weakened at the point 8. The neck. is weakened by means of a scratch.
When the contents are placed in the bottle the cork disk 7 is placed on the end of the neck and the sealing disk vplaced on the top thereof. By pressing upon the pointed'top of the sealing disk the samewill be expanded and engaged within the groove 3 formed 1n the enlarged head 2. After the sealing removed as no edges are exposed and the top thereof is smooth. When it is desired tore- .move the contents from the bottle is only i I necessary to strike a light blow on'the enlarged head 2 which will sever the head from the neck of the bottle at the point 4Q In v the modified form of the invention to `remove the contents va light blow is made on the head 2 which will sever the neck at .the
' point 8, thereby leaving the upper end of the 'f I- have described the neck as being weakened by means of a scratch as distinguishing from an indentation molded in the neck as cause the glass to split evenlygand without splintering.' .l v
ters Patent is sl. In a non-reiillable bottlecomprising i enlarged annular head connected with the` -l bottle at the open end thereof,`said annular headprovided with an annular groove onits I ,finterior, a retaining disk formed from-a ciriece ofv material having a pluralityv the surface of the glass must be'fractured to' Having fully describedinyinvention Whaf` of radially extending crimpsfor contracting the edge ofwsaid retaining disk, saidretain.
ing disk also being convexed on its bottom face whereby the edge of said disk Will eX- tend into the annular groove in said bead when a pressure is applied to the center of said disk, and a closure disk of impervious material interposed between said retaining disk and the top edge of the neck of the bottle.
2. In a non-refillable bottle comprising an enlarged annular head connected with the neck of the bottle at the open end thereof, said annular head provided With an annular groove on its interior, the inner Wall of said groove being of semi-circular formation, a retaining disk formed from a circula-r piece of materialhaving a plurality of radially extending crimps for contracting the edges memes of said retaining disk, said retaining disk also being eonveXed on its bottom face whereby the edge of said disk Willextend f?
