FEEDER' non Hoes' AND THELIKEf To all 'whom et mayvconcem Be it known that I, Jon J. BATTLE, a citizen of the United States, residing atMoultrie, in the county of Colquitt andState of Georgia, have invented a new and useful Feeder for Hogs andthe like, of which they following is a specification.
This invention *relates to a feeder for hogs and other live stock, one of the objects of the invention being to provide a receptacle having means whereby the contents thereof are directed into a trough or base from which the food can be removed by the stock, there being means within the container and in the trough or base for thoroughly agitating the food so that it will not clog the feeder.
A further object is to provide a structure of this character which is simple, durable and eflicient, can be cheaply manufactured, and which eiects a considerable saving in feed in that practically all waste is eliminated.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination 'and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing-from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings the preferred form of the invention has been shown.
In said drawings :-Figure 1 is a front elevation. Fig. 2 is a plan view. Fig. 3 Vis a section on line A-B Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is an enlarged section on line C-D Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a detail view of the cutoff slide.
Referring to the gures by characters of reference 1 designates cross strips on which is mounted a base 2 having upstanding corner posts 3 to which are secured side and end boards l whereby a feed trough or receptacle is provided. Secured upon the posts 3 is a table 5 having a central opening 6 designed to receive the conical lower end 7 of a container 8. This container is held in an upstanding position by a ring 9 or the like supported by braces 10 mounted on the table. The upper end of the container is adapted to be closed by means of a lid 11 or in any other suitable manner.
Depending from the lower or outlet end of the container 8 is a cylindrical extension 12 Specicaton of Letters-Patent.
provided with opposed-guides 134 invwhich vtion of theV container and extends down` wardlythrough and beyond the extension 12, the lower end of the rod being journaled in the middle portion of the base 2. This rod 17 is provided with radial fingers 18 extending close to the wall of the container and to the conical bottom 7 thereof and is also provided with shorter radial ngers 19 capable of rotation within a tubular conveyer 2O arranged under the extension 12 and provided with a funnel-like upper end 21. This tubular conveyer may be supported in any suitable manner as, for example, by resting on radial fingers 22 extending from the rod 17.
Crossed strips 23 are secured to the lower portion of rod 17 and rotate therewith.
In using the apparatus the food to be supplied to the stock is placed in the container 8 and said container closed. This food will gravitate through the extension 12 and into the tubular conveyer 20 onto the spreading strips 23. The stock, while rooting in the food deposited on base 2 will push the strips 23 and not only spread the food outwardly -from the rod 17 but also cause the rod to ing this conveyer and permitting it to drop l down onto the supporting pin 22 the food will be caused to How downwardly from the conveyer. Ithas been found in practice that live stockpsoon learn that by rubbing against the conveyer 20 and rotating and lifting it, thus to permit it to fall back to place, the food will be supplied and, consequently, it` rarely becomes necessary for the rod to be rotated in order to dislodge any of the-food.
By providing a structure such as described, the waste of food is practicallyV eliminated. Furthermore the table 5 serves to protect the food from rain and snow.

Application filed-:mine` 12, 1915.1 'ri Serial-No: 33374515 "if What is claimed is l. A feeder comprising a combined base and trough, a table supported thereover, a container removably mounted on the table and having an outlet in the bottom thereof, a tubular conveyer for receiving feed from the outlet, and agitating means mounted for rotationivvithin the container and conveyer.
2. A feeder comprising a combined base and trough, a container supported thereabove and having a bottom outlet, an adjustable cutoff in said outlet, a tubular conveyer for receiving material from the outlet and directing it to the combined base and trough, a rod mounted for rotation Within 15 the container, conveyer and trough, and means extending from the rod for agitating the contents of the container, conveyer and trough.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as 20 J. O. GARrrHERs.
