DOOR-LOCK.
" Specification of Letters Patent.
' Peltenthdsept. 12,1916;
' Application filed September 18, 1915. Serial No.,51,374.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM F. Drrnnv- SON, a citizen of the United States, residing at .Owatonna, in the county offiteele tain new and useful Improvements in Door- Locks, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in looks for doors of out-buildings as an automobile garage, its object being to provide a door which can only be locked or unlocked from a house at some distance away, thus.
preventing unauthorized entering of the garage.
To this end the invention consists in the features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed. V
In the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification, Figure 1 is a view of a garage door from the inside, with the surrounding wall partly broken away showing my features of invention applied to the door and shown in connection with the house; Fig. 2 is a detail view of the end of the door.
Referring to the drawings 2 and 3 represent a pair of ordinary swing doors, the
door 2 being formed with hand operated locking bolts 4 and 5. 'Mounted upon the inner face of the door 3 is a horizontal rod .6 slidable in brackets 7. The inner end of the rod (3 has pivotal connection 8 with the adjacent end of the toggle arms 9 and 10, the upper and lower ends of. the toggle arms 9 and 10 respectively being pivotally connected with bolts 11 and 12 slidable through brackets 13 into openings in, the
top and bottom of the surrounding frame of the door, wherebyto closed.
bolts-1L and 12 and supported parts therefor I provide the following mechanism: Slidable through the door frame adjacent the hinged edge of the door 3 is a rod 14,
the inner end of the 'rod' l being flattened and formed with a side opening 15. The outer end of -the rod 6 is formed with a into the opening 15 With the lock the door when slot 16 and vertical pin 17 Thus 'With the toggle arms 9 and 10 and the rods 6 and '14. standing in the position shown in Figs 1, the door when closed will brin the pin 17 i I attened end of 'therod 14 into the slot 16- leaving the r? rods 6 and 14: locked togethei' 'to allow slidmg movement, and allowing separation of the rods 6 and 14 as the door is opened.
The outer end of the rod 14 is pivotally connected with the upper end of the lever arm 18, which lever arm has fulcrum support 19 and at its lower end is connected by a rod 20 and rod 21 with an actuating lever arm 22 located in the house. The rods 20 and 21 pass from the garage to the house in concealed position as under ground. The
rods 20 and 21 are used when the house is laterally in line with the door. When the house is at the front 'or rear of the garage, a bent lever arm 23 may be suitably fulcrumed between the rods 20 and 21 so that the cable can pass from the bent lever arm 23 either rearwardly or forwardly to the house. 1
In operation, the parts being moved to the position shown in Fig. 1 by the lever arm 22' will allow the door 3 to be pusheiL' open, allowing a person to enter the garage and by hand unlock and open the door 2. When it is desired to close the garage the door 2 will be locked in the ordinary way in closed position and the door 3-olosed to bring the flattened end of the rod 14 into the slot 16- with the pin 17 extending through the. opening 15. By then pulling the lever arm 22 inwardly the rod 6 will shoved inwardly upon the door tostraig'hten" I the toggle arms 9,.and 10 andshovethe bolts 11 and 12 into the opening'sthejrefor in the framework above and below the door. It thus will be evident the door can only be locked or unlocked from inside the'house and that all connections between the looking lever in the house and theilockilgg mechanism upon the door may be concealed as i by being passed to the house zunder f iground. For the purpose of'actuating the locking I Q I claim:
1 'In combination with a-hingedldoplg'a locking 'bolt slidable' upon the facet-afthe door in cooperation with the surrounding frame, an actuating bar for'saidlocking bolt slidable' upon the door, an actuating bar for said first mentioned bar slidable through the surrounding framework of the door, an actuating leven and a rod and lever connection between said bar and actuating lever.
Means for actuating the locking mechanism of a hinged door from a point some distance away comprising locking bolts slidable upon the face of the door, on actuating bar therefor slidable through the surrounding framework of the door, an actuating lever arm at a removed point, and an under ground connection between said toggle arm actuating bar and said lever arm.
3. Means for actuating the locking mechanism of a door from a removed point, comprising in combination a door, locking bolts slidable upon the face thereof, separable actuating rocls for said locking bolte eon1 prising, one rocl Slitlilbli? upon the face of the door and a I'tHl removably interlocking therewith and slidable through the sun rounding framework of the door, airactuating lever arm at a removed point and an
