Be it known that I, GIOVANNI LOMBARDO, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of White Plains, in the county of Westchester and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Paper-Dispensing Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in paper dispensing apparatus, particularly as used in conjunction with barbers, dental, surgical and other reclining chairs, to furnish sanitary coverings for the head rest and at the same time, sheets of paper :fIOI' principal objects "are: First, to provide a covering inexpensive in cost, that can be easily and quickly renewed so that occupants of the chair may each be provided with a fresh, unused and hence clean and sanitary cover upon which the head rests, the waste paper serving at the same time for use in cleaning instruments, and secondly, to provide means whereby the material used as coverings may be supplied in sheet form from a roll, and the roll itself renewed from a supply source without dismounting from its supports. These and other objects are attained by the novel construction and combination of parts hereafter described and shown in the annexed drawing, which form a material part of this specification, it being understood that changes may be made therein without departing from the scope of the claims hereto appended.

Referring to the drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the upper part of a chair having a head-rest with the attachment applied and indicating in broken lines the arrangement for replenishing the sheet supply roller. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a partial elevational, partial sectional view of the supply roller and easing. Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view, taken on line 4-4 of Fig. 3,

drawn to an, enlarged scale. Fig. 5 is a fractional view showing a modification of the roller and easing shown in Fig. 3. Fig. 6 is an elevational view in detail of the roller. Fig. 7 is an enlarged sectional view, taken on line 77 of Fig. 6. Fig. 8 is a fragmentary perspective view of the feed roller support, and Fig. 9 is a perspective detail view of one of the paper supplysupports.

In these drawings the chair, referred to by the numeral 15, has attached to it a headrest 16, by means of the sliding bar 17, which may be adjusted as to height or removed in the usual manner; an adjustable pivoted joint 18 is commonly provided so that th head-rest can be set and clamped at any preferred angle, the rest-being further provided with a cushion 19 for the comfort of the occupant of the chair.

Rigidly attached to the ends of the side elements 20 of the headrest, near the joint 18, is a cylindrical casing 21, having permanently formed ends or heads 22 provided with hubs 23; part of the casing 21 is formed by a cover 24, hinged at 25 and secured in position, when closed, by catches 26, thus permitting access to the interior of the cylinder.

The edge of the cover 24 does not extend quite to the corresponding edge of the fixed portion of the casing but presents an open slot 27 through which paper wound upon the roller 30 may extend. This roller 30 is also slotted, as at 31, to receive the end of the paper sheet 28 so that it may be wound upon it or dispensed. A fixed collar 32 at one end and the hub of the gear 33 fastened upon the roller at the other prevent longitudinal movement of the roller.

Near the rear ends of the bars 20 are formed two circular apertures 35 and 36 opening into each other and adapted to receive the ends of the feed rolls 37 and 38, over the first of which the paper sheet 28 passes and then under the other over the block 39 and below the knife 40, fixed to extend between the bars 20, and adapted to sever the sheet when the extending end is raised forcibly against its cutting edge.

A crank handle 42 is secured to the extending end of the feed roll 37 by which it may be turned, thus frictionally engaging the paper sheet andadvance it outward to such an extent as may be desired. On the opposite end of the roll 37 is secured a gear 43 in operative relation to the gear 33, a chain 44 being used to communicate motion therebetween when it is desired to replenish the supply of paper upon the roller 30,-and it is to be noted that the chain 44 is sufiiciently loose or slack to allow it to be entirely removed when not in actual use.
