PATENT IMPROVEMENT IN CARRIAGE-SPRING ATTACHMENTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 119,560, dated October 3, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ORRIN E. BENNETT, of Cannonsville, in the county of Delaware an d State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Attachment for Platform- Springs for Garriagcs; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact dcscription thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specication, in which- Figure l is a side view of my improved attach` ment. Fig. 2 is a top view of the same.

My invention has for its object to furnish an improved attachment for the cross-springs in a platform-spring carriage which shall be so constructed as to prevent the springs or their fast enings from being twisted, broken, or injured when subjected to the pressure of a load; and it consists in the device constructed and operating as hereinafter more fully described.
A is a short bar, which is secured to the crosssprings with clips. To the bar A, about midway between its ends and center is riveted or othe Wise securely attached two eye-bolts, B, the eye of which are interlocked with the eyes of two eyebolts, C, which, in the case of the back spring, are passed through and secured to the springbar. The eyebolts C in the case of the front sprin g are secured to the head-block or platform. The device A B C thus forms a hinged connection between the cross-springs and the parts of the carriage-body with which they are connected, so that the side springs may be straightened out by the pressure of the load Without twisting or breaking the springs or their fastenings.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The device A B G, constructed substantially as herein shown and described, to adapt it for attach ment to the cross-sprin gs ofplatform-sprin g carriages, as and for the purpose set forth.
