Description
UNITED STATES PATENT QFFIG'E.
WILLIAM WESTLAKE, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN SPRINKLING ROSE-HEADS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 119,550, dated October 3, 1871.
which the following is a full description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of the lower part which is to be attached to the spout; Fig. 2, a side elevation of the head; and Fig. 3, a longitudinal section of the parts when put together.
The nature and object of this invention is so to construct a rose that it can be taken apart for cleaning or for changing the size of the sprinkler. I accomplish this by providing the rose with a screw in the body thereof, so that the screw can be sufficiently enlarged to give ready access to the interior; and providing the screw with a flange to prevent leaking at the junction.
In the drawing, A B represent the head of the rose; B, sprinkling plate; (3, the base, which is to be attached to the spout by soldering, or by an additional screw, or otherwise, at G. E represents the female, and F the male portion of the screw; and D, the flange which makes the tight joint. The enlarged screw junction E F permits the ready attachment and separation ofthe parts,
and when screwed together the flange D presses against the part A with a spring pressure so as to form a water-tight junction of the parts, and when separated the opening is sufticiently large to give access to the inside of the sprinkling plate B for the purpose of cleaning it. The entire rose with its screw-connection is made of spun metal, by preference, but can be cast if desired. The
. part 0 remains attached to the spout of the waterpot or nozzle of the hose. The changes in size are made in the parts A B, the form of A in all cases remaining the same, so that the flange D will fit any size-thus making the rose, which will part for the purposes mentioned, and still be as compact and serviceable as a rose made of a single piece.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The sheetmetal rose, consisting of the cap A B and neck .0, united by a screw, E F, located in a concavity below the periphery, and provided with the flange D, all constructed and arranged to operate substantially as described.
' WILLIAM WESTLAKE.
