To all whom it m ay concern Be it known that we, Oscar: OEIIRING, technical manager, and Gnonc Hanna, manufacturer, subjects of the Kings of Prussia and Saxony, respectively, residing at Eisleben', Germany, and Dresden, Saxony, Germany, respectively, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in S'aslrFastenors and Lifts, of which the following is a. specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in sash raising and lowering mechanism, and has for its object to provide an improved mechanism wherein but one handle is em-. ployed for releasingthe sash or window frame for raising or lowering the sash. or pane into the desired position, and subsequently to secure the sash or pane in the adjustr position.
Other objects and advantages of this invention will appear from the following detail disclosure of the present embodiments of the invention, the same being disclosed in the accompanying drawings wherein,-

Jteferring particularly to Fig. 1 of the drawings the sash or pane l is mounted in a frame which may be in the form of a door or the like, and which is provided with a. well 10 into which the sash or pane 1 may be dropped for opening the window. A pair of pins 113 project inwardly from the disk '13 and engage in the curved slots 112 when the stud 65 leaves the slot 111, the pins 113 being employed for'thh purpose of holding the plate 110 from accidental movement, by vibration or the like, until the stud 65 is again engaged in the slot 111. From Fig. 3 it will be noted that one of the pins 113 is entering one of the curvedslots 112 while the stud 65 is about to leave the slot 111 in order to ac- "1 tuate the lever 15.
Referring now to the modification disclosed in Fig. 4:, it will he noted that the main frame is provided in one side of the well with a sprocket wheel 81 fixed upon a hub 90 which is journaled for rotation in the main frame and which is provided at its outer end with a pair of cars pivotally supporting between them the handle 46. The inner end of the handle is formed into a cam 91 having at its center a notch for the purpose which will hereinafter appear. The hub 90 is hollow'and contains a rod 87 adapted for longitudinal sliding movement in the hub 90, and a helical. spring 88 surrounds the rod 8'7 abutting at one end against a detachable disk 1145 closing the innor end of the hub. The opposite end of the spring 88 bears against a stop 115 fixed upon the rod 87 near the outer end of the hub. The rod 87 projects beyond the disk 115 and through the hub. into the space hetween the ears on the hub and is adapt-ed to bear against the cam 91 and to move into the notch 92 when the handle is swung up into horizontal position. The inner end of the rod 87 is pivoted to the fork arm 85, the
arms of which are pivoted as at 86 to the main frame and are adapted to swiag about by pivots when the rod 87 is forced inwardly by the cam 91. The lower end. of the fork arm projectsbelow the hub and is turned in to provide a friction stop 84:. The stop 81 in Fig. 4 is shown as an inturned finger while in Fig. 5 the stop is shown as a roller 84. The sprocket wheel 81 is provided with an annular groove for the reception of the friction stop 81 which latter is yieldingly held in the groove by the spring 88 and the rod 87. The sash or pane 1 is connected by a rod 82 to a chain passing over the sprocket wheel 81 and down into the well.
hen the sprocket wheel turned. by turning the handle 46, the chain 80 is moved over the sprocket wheel and caused to raise or lower the sash as is desired. lhe sash is held in clamped iosition by the clamping frame 89 which, as shown in Fig. 1, normally bears against the sash 1 to hold it firmly in place. The upper ends of the arms of the fork lever- 85 above the pivots 86 lie in the path of a flange or finger 116 projecting down from the bottom of the clamp frame 89. 'With this construction it is readily seen that when the handle 46 is raised into horizontal position the cam 91 forces the rod 87 inwardly against the ten 0 sion of the spring 88 to rock the lever 85 about its pivotal supports 86 to not only Withdraw the friction stop 84; from the sprocket wheel 81 and thus free the sprocket, but also for bringing the upper ends of the fork lever 85 into contact with the flange or linger 118, and to move the same outward ly to thus carry the clamping frame 89 therewith and release the sash 1.
As the sprocket wheel 81, and the sash 1 b have now been released the handle 46 may be turned to rotate the hub 90 and sprocket wheel 81, and to thus operate the chain to raise or lower the saslpl as desired. As soon as the proper adjustment of-thesash is had the handle 16 is again swung down, or to one side, to release the rod (57 and admit the spring 88, drawing outwardly the lower end of the forked lever 85 to release the clamping" frame 89 and frictionally hold the sprocket wheel 81 from turning". It is thus seen that by the operation of a single handle the raising and lowering means for the window is controlled, and also that the means for clamping the window when adjusted is controlled. '1
In Figs. 6 and 7 or' the drawings a slightly diilerent term of operating mechanism is shown wherein the huh 90 carries a sprocket wheel 81 to effect the raising and lowering of the sash as in the construction shown in Fig. The sprocket wheel 81 is provided upon its outer side with a cam groove 83 in which rides a roller 117. The roller 117 is journaledin a stud 118 slidabie in-"a guide way 93 fixed to the main frame. The stud 118 is provided, as best shown in Fig. 7, with a pair of oppositely extending fingers 98 engaging the lower ends of a forked arm 99 projecting downwardly from the clamping frame 89. A spring 95 is mounted in the casing 93 and hears at its outer end against the stud 118 to normally and yieldingly urge the studoutwardly toward the sprocket wheel. 81 As the roller 117 travels in the cam groove 83 it reeiprooates with the stud 118 in the casing 93. hen the stud 118 is retracted in the casing 93 the fingers 98 of the stud engage the lower ends of the arm Q9, carrying the arm 99 for- Wardly and moving the clamping frame 89 from the sash 1.
In Fig. 8 of the drawing the clamping frame 89 is provided with a depending arm 99" carrying in its lower end a horirontal roller 11? hearing against the sprocket wheel 81 in the same manner as disclosed in Fig. 6. In this latter case thespring and retracting stud are omitted and the roller is carried directly upon the clamping frame and the usual means for urging the clamping frame against the sash 1. is utilized for holding the roller 117 against the sprocket wheel.
What is claimed is:
1. In combination with a Window frame and a sash therein, hoisting means for the sash, clamping means for the sash, locking means for said hoisting means, and means common to said means for actuating all of said means.
:2. In combination with a Window frame and a. sash therein, raising and lowering mechanism in the frame having connection with the sash, clamping means on the frame for engagement with the sash, means for locking said raising and lowering means in adjusted position, and a handle for said raising and lowering means, clamping means, and locking means, said handle operating these means to 111156 and lower the sash.
3. In a device as specified, a. main frame, a vertically movable sash 1n the mam frame, means for raising and lowering sald sash 1n a. verticallv movable sash in the frame means for clamping the sash in the frame, raising and lowering means connected to the sash, locking means tor securing said raising and lowering means in adjusted position, and a-jso handle operatively connected to said clamp mg means, locking means and rais ng and lowering means adapted to release said clamping means from said sash and said locking means from said raising and lowering means, to raise and lower the sash, and to again clamp the sash and lock said rais ing and lowering means in adjusted position.
5. In combination with a Window frame and a sash therein, hoisting means for the actuate said locking means and clamping means to permit operation of said hoisting means and to subsequently lock said hoisting, means and bring said clamping means against said sash.
6. In combination with a Window frame and a sash, hoisting means for the sash including a rotary part, a handle connected to said rotary part for turning the same to raise and lower the sash, clamping means connected to said handle, and locking means for securing said rotary part in; adjusted osition, said handle being adapted to reease said clamping means and to actuate said locking means to release said rotary part to raise or lower the sash.
