Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 15, 191W.
Application filed December 8, 1915. Serial No. 64,803.
The object of the invention is to provide a device made from a single blank which forms a carton having portlons cut away to display the goods contained in the carton and the provision of means whereby the artlcles within the carton may be kept 1n al1nement and prevented from .falling forward or backward.
Generally speaking the inventlon comprises the elements and combinatlons thereof set forth in the accompanylng claims.
Reference should be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a perspective v1ew showlng the carton; Fig. 2 is a transverse sectlon on the line 22 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a plan vlew of the blank as cut out from a sheet of material.
The blank as cut from a sheet of cardboard or similar material, comprises a front portion 1, a back portion 2, and side portions 3 and 4. The back portion 2 has extending flap portions 2 and 2 which are provided with slits 2. There are also flap portlons 1 and l which are provided with cut out ears 1 which when th carton is folded together engage with the slits 2 The side portions 3 and l are provlded with flap portions which fold in and lie againstthe flap portions of the back portion 2 and front por tion 1 when the carton is folded together, as will be readily understood. The side portion 3 is provided with an extending tongue 3 which folds against the back portion 2 and is secured thereto. The side portions 3 and 4: have panel-like portions 5 which are severed on three sides but left attached on one side as indicated at 5", as will be more clearly seen in Fig. 1 and Fig. 2. The side portion 3 is provided with openings 6. In the present instance these openings are circular and three in number. The side portion 4 is provided with an opening 7 which asshown extends substantially across the side portion 4.
The opening 7 is in alinement with the opensists to retain them in proper alinement, and
further prevents extraction of the articles within the carton through the openings in the front of the carton.
The carton is designed to receive three rows of articles, the articles of each row being arranged in vertical alinement. Each article is of a length to fit between the side portions 3 and 4. One vertical row is in contact with back portion 2, another vertical row is in contact with thei front portion 1, and there is a third row which is intermediate the other two rows and this third row extends between the inturned panels 5. It will be seen that A the inturned panels 5 hold and maintain the vertical rows in alinement and prevent the packages falling out of alinement as articles may be withdrawn from the lower part of the carton and form channels therebetween v to guide the articles as they move downward toward and into registry with the opening 7. It will be seen that the lowermost articles in each vertical row will-be in line with the opening 7 and theopenings 6, and, by inserting a finger of-the hand through the opening 6, one of the articles may be pushed through the opening 7. In this manner the articles in the carton may be dispensed until all have been removed. The front vertical row of articles will be observable through the openings 1 ,.so that the articles to be dispensed or vended may be always in view.
Portions of the carton are adapted to receive printed matter descriptive of and advertising the contents of the articles or packages within the carton.
What I claim is: p
1. A carton'having a dispensing opening and means within the carton for retaining: the contents in vertically alined rows, and forming guide channels therefor, while per mitting the contents to move into registry with said opening.
2. A carton having a dispensing (ipening and partition members extending inwardly from the walls of the carton for retaining the contents in vertically alined rows, and
forming guide channels therefor, while permitting the contents to move into registry with said opening.
3. A carton having a dispensing opening and partition members formed by severing portions of the walls of the carton, said partition members being folded to extend inwardly and serving to divide the, contents into vertical rows and to maintain the rows in vertical alinement, and forming guide channels therefor, while permitting the contents to move into registry with said opening.
4. A carton having a dispensing opening, a plurality of panels partially cut in oppositely disposed portions of the carton, said panels being folded to extend inwardly, said panels serving to dividethe contents of the box into vertical rows and to maintain the vertical rows in alinement, and forming guide channels therefor, while permitting the contents to move into registry with said opening.
5. A carton having oppositely disposed portions in one of which portions there is a dispensing opening and in the other of said portions an opening by which access may be had tothe interior of the carton to push an article contained therein through the dispensing opening, said portions being provided with inwardly extending partition memberswhich are above'the said openings in the said portions, the partition members serving to retain the articles within the carton in vertical alinement, and forming guide channels therefor while permitting the contents to move into registry with said opening. 6. A carton having a front portion which is provided with openings whereby the articles within the carton may be seen, said carton having oppositely disposed side portions, one of said side portions being provided with a dispensing openin the other of said sides being provided wit an opening providing access to the carton whereby an article within the carton may be pushed through the dispensing opening and panels formed by partially severing portions of the said sides above the openings therein, said panels be ing bent inwardly along an unsevered edge, thereby forming partitions to hold the articles within the carton in vertical alinement, and forming guide channels therefor, while permitting the contents to move into registry with said opening.
In testimony whereof, I hereunto afiix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
