IMPROVEMENT IN CART-SADDLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N0. 119,382, dated September 26, 41871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM B. MGCLURE, of
Alexandria, in the county of Alexandria and State of Virginia, have invented a new and useful Iinprovem ent in Back-Chains for Cart-Saddles 5 and I do hereby declare that the following is a full andexact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying1 drawing and to the let ters of reference marked thereon.
This invention relates to that class of cart-saddles which is provided with devices for easing the movement of the chain in its groove; and
consists in providing the chain with rollers, as will be fully described hereinafter.
In the drawing, Figures 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 represent different forms of chains provided with rollers; and Fig. 6 represents the complete cart-saddle having the chain attached thereto.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use myinvention, I will now proceed to describe fully the construction and operation of the same.
A, B, C, D, and E, represent different forms of chains provided with rollers, any of which may be employed, as may be desired. The forms,
however, shown in Figs. 2 and 5 are preferred, because from their construction the links are permitted to swing laterally as well as move longitudinally without bringing an excessive strain upon any of the parts. The chains may be retained within the groove of the saddle by a transverse pin passing through one of the links near each end, as is indicated by the dots x x, Fig. 6. A transverse bar, w', may also be employed, if desired, to assist in holding the chain in place. i
I am aware that it is not new to provide chains with rollers, and I do not, therefore, make any broad claim to a chain so provided; but
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A cart-saddle, constructed as described-that is, with a groove and with a chain provided with rollers, for the purpose set forth.
