Application. filed. July 24,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that f, GorrWAL'r SIEBER, a
subject of the German Emperor, residing at "ing; is a specification.
' In order to embroider a Whole or uncut piece of fabric on an embroidering machine so @3110 produce a continuous design, the embre idcring must be done in sectlons. To this end, after a portion or one section of the fabric finished, it is detached from the {fabric frame and Wound upon a certain roller, at the same time unwinding the fabric from another roller and bringing a fresh or blank piece of fabric into the range of the stitching or embroidering implements. At such manipulation particular care must be taken that two successive portions or sections of the design coincide at all points, both on the Vertical and horizontal lines of connection, and that there be no break in the continuity of the design. it Was ditfi cult to attain this result, because the threads of the fabric which are very elastic, While the fabric is stretched on the fabric frame, become distended beyond the limit of their elasticity, so that When the fabric is subsequently relaxed a change of position of the threads of the fabric occurs. This drawback is removed by the present invention, according to which that end of the finished section of the embroidery with Which the succeeding section is to be joined, is clamped in an auxiliary frame and stretched therein by suitable means Vertically and horimentally Without causing destruction of the texture of the fabric and maintained in that state until the unfinished section of the embroidery fabric is substituted for the completed section and is stretched tautly in Specification of Letters Patent.

The fabric frame a, b, c, d, of an embroidering machine is provided at both ends With the fabric rollers e, on the roller 2 of which is Wound the unfinished or blank fabric and on f the finished or embroidered fabric. The part :0 of th fabric Which is to be embroidered and Which extends over the tainbour frame is in Well known manner fastened to and stretched by longitudinal members Z having hooks Z and suitably supported on the tambour frame as at Z When that portion or section of the fabric has been finished, an auxiliary frame is placed on the embroidered part of the fabric near the end at which it is to connect With the next portion of the embroidered design and is fixed to the longitudinal members Z by clamps or other suitable means. The frame is composed of vertical adjustable members 9, g and cross members 9, g, the members 9, 9 being situated near one end of the members 9, 9, so that at the opposite end an opening g is left. New this frame is so mounted on the tambour frame that the line 3/g of'the finished section will extend through the opening g thereof. Before, however, the completed section of the fabric is Wound onto the roller f, z'. 6., While the fabric is still in a tautly stretched condition on the frame, two rails or bars h, are fixed to the auxiliary frame in such position as to completely inclose the line of connection y7,/ of the embroidery.
The rails or bars it, e' are provided on their sides facing the embroidery fabric with a covering it comprising a great number of fine Wires or prongs over which the embroidery fabric is stretched by suitable means, the Wires or prongs being made so as not to destroy ortear the fabric, While they fully suffice to the fabric rigidly to the rails it, 2'. Now that the connection part of the fabric was thus fixed in position, the finished part of the embroidery is unhooked from the members Z and Wound onto the roller f, leaving the connection part clamped in the auxiliary frame, and is fed onto the roller 7 until the auxiliary frame reaches the dotted line position at the right hand end of the tambour frame. The piece of unfinished fabric unWound from the roller 0 and new extending over the entire length of the tambour frame is then fastened to the longitudinal members Z by hooking it thereto and uniformly and tautly stretched in the tire length of the tambour frame, the removal of the bar it can be efiected without detriment to the goods, for should it happen that the connection line y3 of the; de-- sign after the removal of rail 7t deviates from 1ts vertical position, the error can be easily rectified by correspondingly changing the position of the-second bar 2', which topossible to have the'difierent sections of the gether with the auxiliaryframe remains on the fabric during the succeeding period of embroidery operation. In this manner it is design connected at all points with great precision and without causing any tear of the threads'of the fabric.
The wires or prongs 7c of the covering 70 may be covered up by suitable material or be themselves made of material that will not rust, so as not to stain the fabric.
What .I claim and desire to secure by. Letp ters Patent is:
1. In an embroidering machine, the combination with thetambour frame, of a device for fixing the position of the connection line between two successive sections of an embroidery design, and comprising a frame capable of being removably suspendedfrom the'tambour frame and having detachable bracing members formed each with a system of gripping means adapted to grip and hold the fabric in stretched condition.
2. In an embroidering machine, the com bination with the tambour frame, of a device for fixing the position of the connection line between two successive sections of an embroidery design, and'comprising a frame capable of being removably suspended on the tambour frame, and detachable bracing -members at one end of said frame, each formed on the side facing the fa-bricwith a system of gripping means adapted to grip and holdthe fabric in stretched condition.
3. In an embroidering machine, the combination with the tambour frame, of a device for fixing the position of the connection line between two successive sections of an embroidery design and comprising a frame capable of being suspended from the tambour frame and adapted to be fed along with the fabric, detachable bracing members at one end of said frame each formed on the side facing the fabric with gripping or holding means to secure. the fabric in stretched condition.
In testnnony whereof I affix my s1gnature 111. presence of two witnesses.
