IMPROVEMENT IN WHIP-STOCKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 119,296, dated September 26, 1871.
To all whom fit may concern:
`Be` it known that I, HORAGEYW. AVERY, of
. Westfield, in the county of Hampden and State by twisting rawhide in the usual manner to form the upper or flexible portion, as at a. Toward the handle or rigid portion of the stock wedges 1 of iron or steel b, and of rattan c, are bound up with the end of the rawhide strip by means of the cord d, which is tightly wound around the core from the point e, where the bend begins, to thebase oi' the butt. The whole core is then saturated in glue and covered with the leather strips h, which form the exterior surface of the stock.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The herein-described whip-stock, having1 its upper or iieXible portion a of twisted rawhide and its lower or rigid portion of the rawhide, and wedges of iron b and rattan c, the whole being` bound with cord d, saturated with glue, and covered with leather strips h, all constructed as specined.
