REMOVABLE DEEP-WELL- PUMP CYLINDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 25, 1916.
Application fi1ed 0ctobcr 10, 1912. Serial 0. 724,946.
of that class, a pump cylinder in which the pump mechanism is contained, and means for holding and withdrawing the same from the well.
In carrying out my invention I provide a pump casing located inside the well casing, and a pump cylinder located inside said pump casing, the bottom'of the pump cylinder resting on a support or seat fixed to the pump casing, and the top of the pump cylinder being steadied and held in position by releasable dogs normally impinging the inner surface of the pump casing, whereby, when upward pressure is exerted against the dogs, as in the act of withdrawing the cylinder from the well, they are released from said engagement, and the whole cylinder and its contents can be lifted from its support and brought to the surface of the ground.
My invention consists in the novel parts, combinations and arrangements, set forth in the following specification, particularly pointed out in the claims, and illustratedin the accompanying two sheets of drawings, forming a part of this application, in which Figure 1 is a vertical central sectional View of a well and its casing, pump casing, pump cylinder and contained mechanism. Fig. 2'is a cross sectional view taken along the line aa Fig. 1, looking in the direction of the arrows.
The same symbol of reference marks the same part, in whichever view said part may appear.
Describing now my invention 1n deta1l, 1 is a well, in which is a well casing 2, and a pump casing 3.
Secured to the bottom of the pump casmg is a support or seat 4; A pump cylinder 5 has secured at'its bottom a valve block 6 adapted to rest in seat a; and said block carries valve 7, located between the suction pipe 8, secured to the valve block 6, and the chamber 9 above it. A piston 10 1s reciprocable inside the pump cylinder 5, and carries valve 11 with its mechanism, and arod' 12 operates the piston, and also lifts the cylinder to the'surface of the ground when required. At the top of the pump cylinder a block 13 is fixed forming a guide for rod 12; and located on said block are movabledogs I l, having pointed ends which impinge the pump casing 3, and steady the top of the pump cylinder and hold same in place. On rod 12 is fixed a piece 15 which acts as a stop for spring 16 of valve 11, and also as a means for releasing the dogs. When rod 12 is lifted above the position shown in Fig. 1, piece 15 engages the cars 17 of the dogs 14, and lifts them away from the casing 8, in the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1, thereby allowing the pump cylinder to be withdrawn off itsseat on part 1 and with its contents to be carried to the surface of the ground.
The valve 7 is held in position upon block 6 by means of a central pin 18 secured to bridge 19 on the block 6, and at the upper part of said pin is a nut 20 which serves as a flange to keep the spring 21 of the valve 7 in compression.
The usefulness of my invention will be apparent if it is taken in consideration that sometimes a pump has to be set several hundred feet below the surface of the ground,
and to remove the same for repair or otherwise is very costly and a diiiicult task; therefore the purpose of my invention is to reduce the expense and facilitate the opera tion, which I accomplish by the means above described.-
Believing I have produced novel improvements in the class to which my invention appertains, and having described it to enable those skilled in the art to make and practise the same, what I claim and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:
1. In combination with the casing of a deep well pump, a pump cylinder, located therein provided with a block secured across the top thereof, dogs having pointed ends pivoted to said block adapted to impinge the inner surface of said casing and hold said cylinder in position therein.
2. In combination with the casing of a deep well pump, a pump cylinder located therein having a block secured across the top thereof, holding device pivoted to said block adapted to engage said casing and hold. said cylinder in position therein, and means to release said holding device.
3. In combination with the .casing of a deep Well pump, a pump cylinder provided With a block secured across the top thereof, dogs pivoted to said block having pointed ends adapted to engage said pump casing and hold said pump cylinder in position therein, ears on said dogs and a pump rod having means engaging said ears for releasing said dogs and thereby permitting the Withdrawal of said cylinder.
4. In. a device of the character described, comprising a Well casing, a pump casing in said Well casing, a seat located at the bottom of said pump casing, a valve block adapted to rest on said seat, a pump cylinder fixed to said valve block, a block having threaded means engaging diametrically the top of said pump cylinder, dogs having pointed ends pivoted to the sides of said threaded block engaging said pump casing and a pump rod pro ecting centrally through said Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents, Washington, D. G.
