To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANZ BRUNNER, engineer, subject of the Emperor of Austria- I'Iungary, residing at Hauptstrasse, Stockerau, near Vienna, Austria-I-Iungary, have invented certain new and useful Im provements in Belt-Shifters, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to belt-shifters and more especially to belt-shifters for use with belt reversing gear provided with two indedistinction to the control by cam disks causing a displacement of the belt-forks either directly or by means of gear wheels'the beltshifters according to the present invention comprises an ordinary oscillating lever directly connected with the forks in the usual way and moving either one or the other fork according to the direction in which it is caused to oscillate. The shifting bars carrying the belt-forks and inclosing the said lever between them are provided with cams imparting to the lever a motion in a crosswise direction, thus causing said lever to enter the space between the catches fixed on the fork-bar to be shifted.
In the drawings affixed to this specification the preferred form of a-belt-shifter according to my invention is represented.
Figure l is a plan view, Fig. 2 a front view; Fig. 3 is an elevation, one of the forkbars being left out for the sake of clearness. Figs. 4 to 9 represent different forms of catches for use on my belt-shifter.
Referring to the drawings, a and b are the fork-bars, c and (Z are bearings carrying said bars. 7 and g are catches jammed on said bars respectively, and h is the oscillating lever freely passing between the catches f, 9. Three pulleys are provided for two belts, as usual, a fixed pulley i and two loose pulleys j, is, one on each side of the fixed pulley. Bar a. carries a fork Z, Z, and bar I) carries a fork Z Z The length of path of the bars a and b is limited by catches m, m and pins n, a respectively. The bars are fixed in their intermediate position by spring-bolts p, 7) provided within the bearings 0 and cl respectively.
. In the position represented in the drawings the belts are running on the loose pulleys y, k. If the lever h is displaced in the direction of the arrow, the catch f causes bar a to be displaced in the same direction,
In contraand the belt is thus transferred by the fork Z, 1 from the loose pulley is to the fixed pulley 2', thus causing the shaft to rotate. Ihe path of bar a is limited by the catches m, m.
By shifting the lever h in the opposite direction the belt is transferred by the fork Z Z from the loose pulley 9' onto the fixed pulley z, lever it displacing bar Z) to the right by means of catch g, the path of said bar being limited by pins 77., 11. During its movement to the left or to the right lever 72, is also imparted a cross-motion causing it to approach either bar a or bar 6, such motion being brought about by the cam faces 7, g provided on the catches f, g and coacting with the respective cam faces h, it provided on lever 72,. In turning lever 72, to the left it is also pressed toward bar a by the cam faces g, it; catch 9 and bar 6 are not influenced thereby, pin at preventing their being displaced. Upon the lever being re turned to its intermediate position the spring-bolt 79 prevents the bar Z) from being displaced simultaneously. If the lever 72. is caused to oscillate to the right beyond said intermediate position, it is pressed by the cam faces h, f toward bar 6, thus causing only this latter to be displaced. In order to prevent the lever from being bent in the cross-motion, it is provided with a pivotboring being cone-shaped on both sides.
Both bars are mutually secured against turning and may therefore have a round section. The catch 7 fastened to bar a is provided to this end with an arm guiding the other bar and gliding on it. Catch g is equally provided with a guiding piece for bar a.
In a belt-shifter according to this invention the oscillating lever may be shifted from the farthest right-hand position directly to the farthest left-hand position and vice versa, the reversing gear being thus caused to pass from a rotation to the right at once to the rotation to the left, and if both belts running in the same direction but with different speed, another speed may be obtained in a moment.
The catch shown in Figs. f to 6 is designed for round bars, and the one shown in Figs. 7 to 9 for prismatic bars, the effect being the same in both cases.
