' MILK-BOTTLE BRACKET AND LOCK.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patlltd July 1S, 1916.
Application filed May 14, 191,5. Serial No. 28,201.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, ARTHUR VHEATLEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia A and State of Pennsylvania,.-have invented new and useful Improvements in Milk- Bottle Brackets and Locks, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to a milk bottle holder, and more particularly to the class of milk bottle brackets and locks therefor.
The primary object yof the invention is lthe provision of a l device of this character wherein one or more milk bottles `can be conveniently held and locked to `prevent the theft thereof, the bracket and lock being of novel formto assure the firm holding of the bottle or bottles to ,prevent the. removal thereof by malicious or.l unscrupulous persons.
Another object of the invention'is the provision of a holder of this character wherein the bottles can be removed therefrom bythe proper person without the use of a key, the said holder being of novel form for the firm and secure holding of the bottles.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a holder of this character which is simple in construction, reliable and efficient in use, and inexpensive in manufacture.
Vith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and pointed'out in the claims hereunto appended.
In the drawing Figure l is a horizontal transverse sectional view through a doorway and door showing in top plan the holder constructed in accordance with the invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional view on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a sectional view on the line 4 -4 of Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a sectional view on the line 5 5 of Fig. 3.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.
Referring to the drawing in detail, A designates a portion of a door frame, and B the swinging door, which is of the ordinary well-known construction, while mounted within the door frame is the milk bottle bracket and lock hereinafter fully described.
The bracket and lock comprises a boxlike housing 10, preferably made from metal,
with its rear wall secured to one side of the door frame A, and has an open side conti guous to and adapted to be closed by the swing-1 ing door B when shut. The front wall 11 of the housing 10 is slidably fitted in channeled guide Hanges 12 formed in the said housing, and is lprovided with an opening 13 for re ceiving one. end of a locking slide 14 supported upon a swinging bracket 15, the inner end of which is formed with a pivot sleeve 16 through which is passed the'pivot 17 mounted in the bearings 18 secured to the front wall 11 directly below and at opposite sides of the opening 13 therein.
Y The bracket 15 is formed with a-series of circularholes 19, and likewise the locking Vslide 14 is formed with correspondingly shaped holes 2O which are adapted to register with the holes 19 for the reception of the necks of milk bottles 21'therein, as is clearly shown in Fig. 2 of the drawing. The slide 14 when moved a predetermined degree upon the bracket 15 serves to lock the necks of the bottles 21 so that the latter. cannot be removed from the bracket until the slide is released, the locking of the slide being carried out in a manner presently described.
lVithin the housing 10 and secured to the front wall 11 are spaced transversely disposed guide cleats 22 in which is mounted a slidable locking plate 23, while formed on the inner end of the slide 14 isa hook-like keeper 24 which is adapted t0 abut the locking plate 23 when the slide 14 is pushed inwardly through the opening 13 in the front wall 11 for the positive locking of the slide against movement and in position for securing the n ecks of the bottles 21 in the holes 19 and 2O which at this instance are out of registration with each other.
Cut from the locking plate 23 is a right angular bearing 25 to which is secured a leaf spring r26, the ends of which work against bearings 27 on the rear wall ofthe housing l1 so that the said locking plate 23 will be positively held in normal locking position, yet the same is free to ride over the keeper end 24 of the slide when the latter is pushed inwardly for the locking of the bottle necks in the bracket in suspended position.
Formed on the locking plate at the upper edge thereof is a linger wing or nib 28 which is readily accessible through the open side of the housing 10 when the door B has been swung to open position s0 that the locking plate 23 can be raised for releasing the slide to permit the removal of the necks of the bottles 21 from the bracket.
Wvhat is claimed is 1. A device of the class described comprising a housing, a bracket swingingly supported upon the housing and having holes for receiving the necks of bottles, a locking slide supported upon the bracket for the fastening of the necks of the bottles therein, and manually releasable means Within the housing `for locking the slide in its locking position.
2. A device of the class described comprising a housing, a bracket swingingly supported upon the housing and having holes for receiving the necks of bottles, a. locking slide supported upon the bracket for the fastening of the necks of the bottles therein, manually releasable means Within the housingfor locking the slide in its locking position, and means acting upon the last-named means to normally hold the same in position for engagement With the slide.
3. A device of the class described comprising' a housing, a bracket sWingingly supported upon the housing and having holes for receiving the necks oi' bottles, a locking slide supported upon the bracket for the fastening of the necks of the bottles therein, manually releasable means Within the housing for locking the slide in its locking position, means acting upon the last-named means to normally hold the same in position for engagement With the slide, and a keeper on the slide for tripping the said locking means Within the housing for its engagement with the said keeper when the slide is moved in one direction.
4L. A device of the class described comprising a housing, a bracket swingingly supported upon the housing and having holes for receiving the necks of bottles, a locking slide supported upon the bracket for the fastening of the necks of the bottles therein, manually releasable means Within the housing for locking the slide in its locking position, means acting upon the last-named means to normally hold the same in position for engagement with the slide, a keeper on the slide for tripping the said locking means Within the housing for its engagement with the said keeper When the slide is moved in one direction, the said housing being formed with an opening in one side to permit access to the locking means for the slide.
In testimony whereof I aiiiX my signature in presence of a Witness.
