Upon the pinion E, I secure a lever e', and I connect the levers eiand e by means of a. link eL so that power,jwhen applied to the lever F, is communicated to the pinion E, through the leversie e', and link e2. For snpporting the internalband B, out of Contact with the flange A, I secure a loop Gf thereon, which is engaged by a stud G2, securedon the housingH, and I provide springs g g, which are attached to loops b b, on the braleband B, and to the study-bolt F', the operation of which springs is -to cause said hr'akeband tomove away from the flange A, when the lever F, is released.
Having thus shown and descri'bed'the con-A ,.struction ofmy improved brake-gear, it is believed the operation lthereof is so obvious that further description thereof is unnecessary. I Y

2. In a brake-gear, adru'm, a brake-band partially inclosing said drum, gear-racks se- .cured on each end of said band and overlap ping each other, a gear-pinion between said gear-racks and intermeshing therewith and supported thereby, means to rotate said inion, an arm rigidly supported with'referehoe .FRANK HOFFMAN.
