Description

rarer or BYRON ELIJE CAG-LE AND lllfATTlElEW LINCOLN GAGLE, 0F MOUNTAINAR', NEW I MEXICO. p
mamans-ms Patented July d, 1916,
Application led August 17, 1915. Serial No. 46,008.
To @ZZ whom t may concern.'
'Be it known that we, BYRON ELIJAH CAGLE and MATTHEW LINCOLN- CAGLE, citizens of the United States, residing at Mountainair, in the county of Torrance and State of New Mexico, have invented a new and useful Pumping-lllachine, `of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relatesvto improvements in rotary pumps, and the object of our invention is to use three forces conjunctively, namely, direct contact, centrifugal and suction force in the same machine in order lo etliciently raise any given quantity of water.
We attain this object by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a view of the pump partly in section, and Fig. 2 of the drawing is a ver tical view of the casing, the lower portion thereof being broken away.4 Fig. 3 is a horizontal section taken on line 3113 of Fig. 1. The pump is essentially an auger incased and rig-idly secured in an air tight cylinder, and provided with an annular air tight conduit pipe to discharge the water as is illustrated by SS in Fig. 2 of the drawing.
' InFig. 1 the framework F is simply a support for the pump proper whereby it may be suspended over a creek or pond for pumping. The main shaft H is provided at the vbase with a'pivotal bearing and Iis provided at the top with a suitable collar bearing B, and having' a pulley P attached to said shaft for rotating the same. In Fi g. l it is shown how the two first named forces are utilized, that is the direct contact force. which is secured by the helical blade (f Fig. l) or flanges of the auger coming in contact with the water when the machine is set in motion, and the second or centrifugal force is secured by the high momentum of the machine whereby the water is thrown to the periphery and forced upward by the force of the water from below-the lower end of the casinar C being left open to allow l of the inward How of the water.-
The third and main force' of suction is obtained bythe annular conduit tube SS illustrated by the drawing. Thisv conduit may be of any size and length so as to dispose of the water as fast asl it reachse the top ofthe cylinder or casing C. The chief function vof the conduit tube is to create suction and 1s made in circular or sem1-c1rcular form. This force of suction is brought about and pliere on the two extreme ends of the pump, the outlet oi,d'ischarge port of the vcircular ronduit tubelSS when in operation revolving' at a high speed, and away from the air pressure, and the intake or pressure of the air at the intake port being normal the waterY Wherefore what we claim and desire to secure by Letters Patentis..
A rotary pump comprising a cylinder closed at one end and open at the other end to provide a fluid inlet and having adjacent its closed end a peripheral port, a casing having' a discharge port and rigidly connected to said cylinder adjacent its closed end and forming therewith an annular con .duit which surrounds and is of less axial extent than said cylindenand communicates at one end with said peripheral poi-t and at its other end with said discharge port, helical blade rigidly' connected to said cyinder, and means for' rotating said parts,-
whereby luid is impellcd through said cylinder, and discharged ccntrifugally through Isaid discharge port;
